Community Health Worker

  Job Purpose  To support the medical team in reducing the mortality and morbidity in the area by improving health-seeking and healthy behaviour of the community. More specifically, the community health worker will explain the target population of MSF clinic and encourages the population to use the available, accessible and quality primary health care Assist individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors. Conduct outreach for medical personnel or health organizations to implement programs in the community that promote, maintain, and improve individual and community health.       Scope of responsibilities Promotion of healthy behaviour in the targeted community / areas Promotion of MSF health services Social support and orientation of patients/ Help the population to find health services when outside our criteria Community health data / information collection Help the staff for specific tasks Provide information on available resources, provide social support and informal counseling, advocate for individuals and community health needs, and provide services such as first aid and blood pressure screening. May collect data to help identify community health needs.     Specific duties Promotion of healthy behaviour in the targeted community / areas Perform health and hygiene education with target community, patients and attendants, in group or individually (also depending on the patients' specific condition) Weekly and daily activity reports Support and cooperate in new intervention  related to health and hygiene promotion Consult regularly the MTL to improve the health education and to develop new messages if needed Ensure good quality of health promotion by developing knowledge about health issues and seasonal epidemiology Report any problems related to health promotion, hygiene or waste management to the supervisor so that appropriate measures can be taken in this regard Promotion of MSF health services Raise MSF awareness within the community Promote the health services provided by MSF to increase its acceptance in the community Act as the focal point between the community leaders, refugee populations and MSF Inform about MSF presence, charter,  mandate inLebanon Inform about PHC clinic (criterias, services, working hours) Analyzes MSF perception and deters misunderstanding on operations, MSF identity Social support and orientation of patients /Help the population to find health services when outside our criteria Guide patients to other health structure, NGO’s, when they cannot beneficiate our services in collaboration with the doctors Develop relations and communications with community leaders, other social worker, NGO’s in order to propose medical or non medical services to patients Help to improve the health mapping of the area by collecting information and improve networking Explain our criteria to the people who come to the clinic Community health data / information collection Report relevant information about diseases and health-related behaviour within the communities Collect, when asked, information about knowledge and attitudes on relevant health issues in the area Support (prevalence) studies, survey or questionnaire conducted by MSF.   Function responsibilities   Monitoring, analysis and reporting Participate in the development of the plan of action Participate actively in the monitoring and the reporting of medical activities (correctly fill in patient files, forms, statistics, reports) and propose analyse of these statistics. Ensure a relevant transfer of information Report immediately to the technical referent any problem arising during the activity,      especially the loss/ robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines.   Raise MSF awareness within the community Act as the focal point between the community leaders, refugee populations and MSF Inform about MSF presence, charter,  mandate inLebanon Inform about PHC clinic (criterias, services, working hours) Analyzes MSF perception and deters misunderstanding on operations, MSF identity   Specific activities linked to context Transmits to community health promotion messages Participate in vaccine campaigns   Additional tasks  On request perform any other additional duties given by the immediate supervisor in order to allow the organisation to function optimal
