The Medical Coordinator coordinates and supervisesall medical activities. Although this position is based in Beirut, it requires continuous presence on the field (60%).
General/Programme Management
- Oversee implementation of health interventions at Social Development Centres
- Adaptclinical guidelines and treatment protocols
- Ensure referral mechanisms to higher level health facilities and other organizations are in place and well understood
- Adapt procedures and guidelines for primary health care centre management following national policies
- Check patient records to monitor diagnosis and treatment at health facilities
- Monitor, in collaboration with the pharmacist, drug prescription and ensure rational use of drugs
- Monitor quality of medical services at supported health centres and recommend improvements when needed
- Contribute to project planning and proposal writing
- Develop, in collaboration with the Public Health Officer, a community outreach plan
- Participate in the development of the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) plan
- Contribute to health contingency planning
Team Management
- Support and supervise medical teams at health facilities
- Organise regular meetings, briefings and debriefings with the medical team
- Participate in the recruitment of medical staff
- Emphasize on capacity building of the national medical team
Medical Stock Management
- Identify needs in equipment, supplies and drugs
- Supervise medical purchase process
- Ensure the supervision of the pharmacy (consumptions, orders, inventory) in link with logistic team
- Work closely with the central pharmacist to ensure essential drugs are available at all times
- Modify, in consultation with the health team, the drug list if needed
- Develop plan for contingency drugs and medical supplies
Data collection and Epidemiologic Surveillance
- Work closely with the Public Health Officer to develop data collection tools
- Supervise and monitor data collection at health facilities and analyze data collected on a weekly basis
- Provide feedback to health facilities on analyzed data
- Continue to strengthen and develop data collection and surveillance
- Ensure SDCs are provided with guidelines and procedures for surveillance of special communicable diseases like TB, Leichmaniases, etc
Capacity Building
- Work closely with Public Health Officer to develop a capacity building programme for the health team
- Conduct trainings for employed general practitioners on management of acute and chronic illnesses
- Provide training of key health topics, data collection, epidemiological surveillance, and other topics
Outbreak Response
- Identify key risks for outbreaks and preventive action
- In case of suspected outbreak, organize and perform field visit for further in‐depth analysis of the situation
- In case suspected outbreak is confirmed, support planning of adequate outbreak emergency response
- In collaboration with Public Health Officer, coordinate epidemic outbreak response with other partners
Competencies and Skills
- Licensed medical doctor, member of the Order of Physicians with at least 3 years experience
- Registered nurse with 5 or more years of experience
- Working knowledge of English, fluent in Arabic
- Public health knowledge/experience is an asset

- Able to work in stressful conditions
