Education Field Officer

Job Purpose Summary The EFO will work with the education team (EFC, EFAs, teachers and animators) to support out of school children in Arsal ITS and Collective Shelters through assessing needs, assisting in designing and facilitating activities, and reach out to community members through field visits. The EFO position will be responsible for the day to day running of the activities and supervision of the education staff in cooperate with Arsal community center. Key Responsibilities NRC is operating a Community Center in Arsal that is providing non-formal education and psychosocial support activities for newly arriving refugee children. NRC plans to use this center as its operational base and reach out to children in ITS’s and Collective Shelters, by organizing 8 Itinerant Education Units who can visit the ITS’s and Collective Shelters on a regular basis, along with setting up Temporary Learning Spaces (and renting space in private schools or by setting up classes in the tents) in collaboration with the local refugee community. The Itinerant Education Units will be composed by Syrian Teachers, NRC staffs and volunteers/animators that will develop educational and recreational, and social activities in the ITS’s and Collective Shelters, Plan, coordinate, and manage daily educational and recreational activities effectively. Supervise the Education Field Assistants, teachers and animators involved in the Itinerant Education Unit and in the field. Plan and implement education outreach activities: need analysis, focus group discussions, and any other outreach and field activities. Monitor the activities implemented by Education Field Assistants, teachers and animators. Have a clear idea about education activities that other institutions working in the same area are carrying out with displaced Syrians. Work with teachers individually to create learning plans (monthly and weekly). Be aware of referral mechanisms in collaboration with other NGOs and NRC Managers. Organize awareness sessions for children and parents. Identifying local interest and up to date needs, in addition to how to meet them. Responsible of designing the needed forms, questionnaires and other templates. Responsible of maintaining the archiving system up to date (both in hardcopies and electronically). Report weekly & monthly on activities and results to Education Field Coordinator in the area. Perform any other task assigned by NRC managements. Qualifications and Competences Academic and Professional Qualifications University degree in Education/ Development related field/ Psycho-social studies or Sociology required. Relevant Experience Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant work experience in a busy organization. Knowledge, Skills & Personal Attributes Good communication and interpersonal skills Strong organizational and team working skills Good cultural awareness and sensitivity Highly approachable, trustworthy and confidential Very good English Language level Knowledge of the NGO operations and the dynamics of the humanitarian sector is a plus Strong documentation, research and report writing skills. Qualified and experienced teacher/ master trainer/counselor/social worker. Knowledge & relevant experience in child protection issues. Experience in designing & facilitating training programs Experience in participatory programs. Experience in community sensitization/ mobilization. Has worked in emergency response or with marginalized communities Able to work under pressure Achievement indicators Delivering working tasks in a structured and professional manner Meeting deadlines Applying to the NRC standards, policies and guidelines Adapting and coping to change Communication with impact and respect
