Epidemiologist

Under the overall supervision of the IOM Representative in Lebanon and the direct supervision of the Health Programme Officer at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Beirut, and the technical direction of the National Tuberculosis Programme Coordinator of MOPH Lebanon, the incumbent will be responsible and accountable for implementing activities within IOM’s emergency health assistance -related projects. In particular, he/she will: Ensure accurate and prompt collection of data about tuberculosis on a monthly basis from the different tuberculosis centers falling under the National Tuberculosis Program in Lebanon. Analyze this data using epidemiological methods and statistical software such as Excel, SPSS and Strata. Draft monthly reports on the numbers and distribution of tuberculosis cases across Lebanon, with data disaggregated by age, gender and nationality, and report back of significant findings to the emergency health unit at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Beirut. Visit tuberculosis centers in the different areas on a regular basis and maintain direct contact with center managers. Act as a liaison between IOM emergency health team in Beirut and the national tuberculosis program (NTP) coordinator. Assist the NTP coordinator in the management of the daily activities related to the NTP program. Coordinate all activities conducted by IOM for the national tuberculosis program in Lebanon including but not limited to purchase and distribution of materials, arranging trainings and meetings. Participate in assessments/surveys of the beneficiaries’ health needs and needs of the supported tuberculosis centers. Report any difficulties and challenges to the NTP coordinator and IOM Beirut emergency health unit Monitor health projects’ process, specifically with the aim of increasing effectiveness and recommending appropriate actions in coordination with the National Public Health Specialist and Health Programme Officer at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Beirut. Perform such other duties as may be assigned

Education and Experience
a) Undergraduate/postgraduate degree in a health related area (preferably, epidemiology, medical sciences, medical informatics, or biostatistics); b) minimum two of relevant work experience, including experience in epidemiological research; c) experience in the public health sector in Lebanon; knowledge of project development, implementation and monitoring is an advantage; d) demonstrated understanding of the humanitarian system through work experience and/or studies; e) willingness to undertake frequent travel to field locations across Lebanon.
