Trainer Communication Techniques

Terms of Reference Trainer communication techniques   In the framework of the project “Cooperation and dialogue for peace between municipalities and young Lebanese and Syrian in Akkar“funded by French Embassy, Mada is seeking a trainer in communication techniques. The trainer will be in charge of developing and implementing a one day practical workshop on communication, to empower Lebanese and Syrian groups in 5 villages in Akkar with the communication skills to enable them to develop a common approach to initiate social cohesion and communicate positively with the community Main work interfaces ü  Internal interfaces -      Project Coordinator -      Field Officer -      Administrator ü  External interfaces -      Municipalities members and local NGO -      Project Steering committee -      Syrian and Lebanese’s Youth Mission 1: Design workshop on communication techniques ü  Design an appropriate workshop to meet the project’s objective and reach the results, including all training material ü  Draft a training program (agenda)  Objective of Training Building capacities of steering committees and Syrian and Lebanese’s youth regarding communication techniques Expected Results -      Youth and steering committees have acquired communication skills and can build an effective team -      Steering committees have the social skills to motivate youth and develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with all the youth and all community -      Communication among team members is facilitated to ensure enhanced relationships, safety and respect for individual social and cultural differences -      Verbal communication techniques of youth are assessed to ensure use of clear language which is appropriate to the audience -      Active listening skills of youths are employed and assessed and questioning techniques used to clarify issues Training Content -      The communication concept and the important role of the youth -      The types of communication: verbal, gestural… -      Communication skills and techniques, including: role play and youth outreach -      Communication skills : difference between negative and positive language -      The impacts of social and cultural differences on the effectiveness of communication -      Typical internal and external barriers to effective communication in the workgroup -      How to deal with anger -      Leadership, teambuilding skills Mission 2: Implementation of a one-day workshop for steering committees & Syrian and Lebanese’s youth ü  Communicate in Arabic language (without the use of any foreign words). Mission 3: Evaluation of Workshop and Reporting Evaluation ü  Design an evaluation form to receive feedback from participants on the training and to assess the change in knowledge of communication techniques and in a more general way the effectiveness of the workshop ü  Read the workshop evaluation forms and provide short summary analysis on results/improvements realized by the workshop Reporting ü  Compile all the above in a short activity report, including: -      The workshop program / agenda -      Proposals of the youth and their interventions -      A short evaluation on the training, its content and results, including the number of participants that judged the training to be beneficial Education and knowledge required ü  Bachelor in Management, Education or Social Science ü  Profound knowledge of communication techniques ü  Experience in interactive and participatory training techniques ü  Experience in designing trainings and developing training material ü  Experience in the design questionnaires, evaluation forms and pre- and post-test ü  Computer: Office Pack ü  Languages: Arabic, English Skills required ü  Excellent social and interpersonal skills ü  Experience in awareness raising and in motivating deprived communities ü  Good knowledge of the area and its local habits ü  Excellent written and verbal communication skills ü  Involvement and commitment Acting in a diplomatic way, representing Mada’s non-religious, non-political and non-sectarian principles and respect for diversity and gender Geographical Location 5 villages in AKKAR Mission duration December 2013
