Project Assistant

Working under general direction of the Chief of Mission (COM) of IOM Lebanon and direct supervision of the Emergency Coordinator (EC) the incumbent will be responsible for assisting the EC with planning, managing and monitoring immigration and border management projects/activities, in particular, those to be carried out under the project “Multi-Sector Assistance to Populations in Lebanon Affected by the Syrian Crisis , including translation and interpretation services as needed.    Specific Responsibilities:   Assist the EC in establishing contacts with relevant authorities of Government of Lebanon (GoL) and other relevant authorities and agencies as necessary; Assist the ECin fact-finding and data-analysis in the field of migration and border  management in Lebanon, as well as data related to the regional aspects of the flows of migrants in countries in the Region; Closely follow the latest developments in migration trends in Lebanon and in the region as whole; brief the EC on findings in this field; Assist EC and other IOM officials in the organization of meetings and events, such as workshops, trainings, etc., as necessary; Translate Public Information (PI) from Arabic into English and vice-versa, as requested by the EC and/or his designate; Provide interpretation Arab-English during meetings of the EC and/or his designate and other IOM officials as necessary; Ensure information sharing among other IOM staff members including the staff members in the field offices for the initiatives conducted under this project; Assist in project admin/ finance /logistics/operations matters and support other operations for the mission; In coordination with CoM identify and promote strategic and technical partnerships with relevant Government entities, private sector and civil society partners, UN agencies and other stakeholders, to strengthen IOM’s immigration and border management portfolio, in Lebanon;   Attend relevant meetings with project counterpart when requested; Ensure that all programme activities and implementation methodologies are consistent with overall programme and IOM institutional standards; Provide support to international consultants when needed; Assist the EC in preparing progress, interim and final reports for CoM, Regional Office, IOM HQ, as necessary; Perform such other related duties as maybe assigned by the PM and CoM.

• University degree and experience in Public Administration, Law, English language , Communication or relevant field;
• Experience in working with government officials.
• Thorough knowledge of English and Arabic. Knowledge of French will be considered an advantage;
• Excellent communication, written and verbal skills both in Arabic and in English;

• Experience executing rigorous and creative quantitative and qualitative analyses, experience with statistical packages an advantage;
• Proficient and experienced in both donor reporting and thematic reporting;
• Experience in liaising with Government authorities, other national/international institutions and donors (including, preferably, EU institutions);
• Experience in the MENA region is an advantage, including proven experience in advocacy;
• Professional-level familiarity with MSWord/MS Excel/MS PowerPoint applications, as well as Outlook.
