Research Assistant

The Centre for Lebanese Studies (http://lebanesestudies.com) is looking to recruit a researcher to work on a project exploring the conditions and needs of the Syrian Children refugees in Lebanon. In particular, the project aims to examine their education, mental health and family conditions. For the past four years, the Centre for Lebanese Studies has been carrying out a number of education research projects in Lebanon in the field of education of the refugees, social cohesion, citizenship education, history, peace education, and curriculum studies. The Centre for Lebanese Studies (CLS) is an independent academic research institution whose purpose is to promote international understanding of the country and the issues facing it.   Roles and Responsibilities   Conduct focus group discussions and one to one interviews with children and families Recruit participants for the focus group and individual interviews Analyse qualitative data Conduct literature reviews Travel to Akar and Beirut to collect data   You will be based at the CLS in Beirut and responsible to the Project Manager.   Selection Criteria   Experience in working or conducting research in the field of refugees Experience in conducting focus groups and individual interviews Experience in analysing qualitative data. Familiarity with the Syrian refugee communities A University degree preferably in education, psychology, or other social sciences Available as of November 2013  Excellent record keeping skills, a high degree of accuracy in work practices and the proven ability to pay close attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills, including a confident manner in dealing with a wide range of people; the ability to interact with people at all levels with a sense of absolute tact, discretion and diplomacy.  Oral and written mastery of the Arabic and English language
