Health Officer

POSITION GENERAL INFORMATION Ø Starting date: 25/11/2013 Ø Duration: 5 months with possibilities of extension Ø Based in: Beirut (with  trips to North,South and Mount Lebanon)   OVERALL MISSION   General objective   In collaboration with the health team, is responsible for providing quality information and health education and awareness in order to ensure dissemination of information  about diseases under Surveillance and continous surveillance activities in Collective Shelters (CS) and Self Made Shelter Gathering (SMSG)of Syrian refugees with respect of PU-AMI overall principles.   Responsibilities and tasks   Ø Provide quality information and health education/ awareness to Syrian refugees in Shelters/Gatherings. -            Participate in regular mapping and need assesment in SMSG and CS for diseases under surveillance. -            Participate in health-related assessments of the beneficiaries’ needs -            Participate and conduct regular awareness Session about diseases under surveillance in SMSG and CS. -            In collaboration with the Health supervisor, Project Manager and MD/Epidemiologist, participate in the creation and dissemination of IEC (Information, Education, Communication) materials. -            Ensure the provision of health education session to community focal point in SMSG and CS on identification,notification, and on  reporting to PU-AMI following stipulated reporting channels. -            Ensure regular field level monitoring of community focal points in SMSG and CS. And be in regular and direct contact with beneficiaries, collect complaints and suggestions. -            Ensure transmission of notification/alert about diseases on surveillance are transmistted to the Health supervisor /MD epidemiologist within stipulated reporting period. -            Maintain daily contact with all the community focal points in targeted SMSG and CS seeking information on disease under surveillance. -            Participate in active data collections using the PU-AMI data tools for monitoring and reporting for emergency response health information system. -            Participate in intial response to any disease outbreak alert/notifications. -            Monitor medical consumables and equipment availability for team use while on field assesments. -            Report any difficulty or issue to the Health Supervisor -            Respect the confidentiality of the beneficiaries -            Contribute to work related reports. -            Accomplish any other tasks assigned by the Health Supervisor   The tasks and responsabilities of the Health Field Officer mentionned above are not thorough and may be subject to evolve depending on the needs PU-AMI may have.   Supervision   Ø Under the direct supervision of: Health Supervisor Ø Direct supervision of: / Ø Under the overall supervision of: MD/Epidemiologist  and Project Manager   QUALIFICATIONS   Mandatory requirements   Ø Language Skills: Fluent in English and Arabic, (speaking/reading/writing). Ø Education Degree: University degree in nursing or any health related studies. Ø Work experience: Proven experience in NGOs. Ø Computer Skills: Excellent knowledge of the MS office software including Word, Excel, Outlook Ø Other requirements -         Valid driving license, -         Good knowledge of Mount Lebanon governorate geography, willing to travel a lot locally -         Excellent communication (especially in public) and diplomacy skills to manage relationship in potentially tense situations -         Literacy in reporting, experience in conducting surveys   Assets   Ø Interest: Work in relief, interest for social issues  Ø Transversal skills -         Strong motivation to help people in need -         Conflict resolution and diplomacy experience -         Understanding of the political situation in the area -         Reliability -         Ability to take initiative to deal with difficulties encountered in daily work -         Capacity to work in an multidisciplinary and multicultural team -         Ability to adapt or change priorities according to the changing situation within a mission or the organisation itself -         Ability to analyze and suggest improvements of the activities -         Well organized and hard worker -         Able to manage stress and pressure -         Able to check information, logical -         Neutral
