Function responsibilities:
Network:
Create and keep up to date mapping of available NGOs and services in the area
Keep and maintain a network of social partners that can provide answers to social problems (institutions, NGOs…etc.)
IEC/Promotion:
Promote MSF and raise awareness about health and mental health at household level.
Sensitize about mental health medical staff of the health facilities present in the community strengthening referrals’ mechanisms to MSF services.
Improve the understanding of the target population on Mental Health.
Assist the medical team to ensure that proposed interventions are culturally acceptable by the population.
Identify methods of communication and key messages to disseminate in the community to promote the services offered by MSF in collaboration with the Health Promoter
Is always respectful towards patients, collaborators, authorities, military factions and MSF staff participating in meetings or discussions.
Arrange meetings with authorities and relevant stakeholder in collaboration with the DFieldco and the Fieldco
Able to adapt to any circumstances, use appropriate language registry, diplomatic, courtesy manners
Social activities:
Identification of health, social, psychosocial, socio-economic and administrative needs among patients
Provide information, advise on existing social services
Provide immediate social care (actively listening…etc.)
Refer patients with social problems to the relevant person or institution (inside or outside MSF)
Establish a network of contacts with authorities, religious leaders and popular committees, understanding their role within the community and closely working with them to develop strategies in referring patients to MSF Health and Mental Health services.
Represent MSF and maintain regular contact with authorities and stake holders at community level (community leaders, coordinators, social development actors, NGOs, enabling community health centres, schools, etc. .. .)
Conduct assessment and follow-up home visits for patients referred by the clinicians
Actively identify vulnerable patients and attend to their immediate needs
Follow-up on defaulters (NCD program).
Psychosocial activities:
Assess patients …
Provide individual, family and group psychosocial support sessions
Actively refer patients in need for psychotherapy to pre-identified actors
Immediately refer patients identified with severe mental disorders to pre-identified actors providing Psychiatric consultations, drugs and possible psychiatric admissions
Follow-up on patients referred in order to ensure their reception of proper quality care
Monitoring, reporting:
Report verbally and written the home visit/social intervention/referrral of patients to the clinicians and the Specialist Nurse
Participate in the development of the plan of action
Keep statistics updated about his/her activity and submit monthly reports to the MTL
Report immediately to the MTL any problem arising in the service, especially urgent cases in need for an immediate intervention from MSF or any other actor
Report to the direct supervisor the loss/ robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines
