Assistant Research And Advocacy Advisor

  To assist in the implementation of a participatory action research project intended to:   Raise worker consciousness among women migrant domestic workers in Lebanon; Build relationships between women migrant domestic workers, unions and NGOs; Provide education to women migrant domestic workers to assist in linking their experiences with broader structural factors; Increase women migrant domestic workers involvement in NGO and union advocacy campaigns. Key Duties: Identify and meet with community leaders of African communities; Meet with community leaders and validate research questions and incorporate suggested amendments; Regularly meet with key stakeholders – NGO’s / INGO’s and Unions and seek feedback about the process and validate the questionnaire; Assist facilitator to orient key stakeholders to the participatory action research process; Translate from Arabic French and English; Attend weekly workshops and meetings outside of usual business hours; Document and write up the discussions and outcomes from meetings; Transcribe workshops; Maintain bi-weekly phone and / or face to face contact with African migrant domestic workers; Interpersonal Skills We are seeking an applicant who enjoys learning about other cultures and is passionate and committed to the struggle for justice for all, particularly women. It is essential the person is able to quickly build relationships with new people from numerous and vastly different backgrounds. The successful candidate will have a great patience and a good sense of humour in the face of unexpected challenges. Qualifications & Skills Skills demonstrated by an experienced or qualified community development worker / social worker. Work hours & Compensation: The Assistant Research and Advocacy Advisor position is a casual role (24 hours per week) over a three month period. The Assistant Research and Advocacy Advisor will receive a salary of $700USD per month. The Assistant Research and Advocacy Advisor must be willing to be flexible with the hours they work (Monday through to Sunday) as they will need to adapt to the needs of the research participants and other key stakeholders. It is likely that at least 1 day a week the hours will be 1pm until 8pm. Weekend work will be required. Hours required per week: 24
