Shelter Assessment Officer - Akkar

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and non-profit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 30 countries around the world. DRC has been operating in Lebanon since 2004, working with Palestinian and Iraqi refugees, as well as Lebanese communities affected by the war in 2006. DRC is committed to basic humanitarian principles; including impartiality and neutrality, and offers the highest standards of accountability to the people it serves. DRC Lebanon has been assisting the Syrian displaced, fleeing Syria into northern Lebanon, since May 2011, and the Bekaa valley since February 2012. This assistance has come through the provision of food and non-food items, various outreach activities and rehabilitation of collective shelters. DRC is inviting local candidates to apply for the position of Shelter Assessment Officer - Tripoli, to support its activities. General Responsibility Organise the daily / weekly / monthly work, in co-ordination with the Shelter Manager (SM) Co-ordinate the Shelter Assessment Team's (SAT) work Document and keep record of all the activities of the Team Suggest solutions for the problems encountered, discuss them with the Shelter Co-ordinator (SC) and the HoO and participate to the decision making process. Based on the knowledge of the territory and sector, help the senior management develop more effective and efficient responses for the assessed shelter needs Maintain proper lessons learnt record during implementation and share new ideas with the Head of Office, SC and the team.   Project Implementation and Monitoring Based on the knowledge of her/his AoR, and of DRC activities, objectives, procedures and standards, scout the territory and identify sites and locations for possible shelter interventions Establish and maintain contacts with stakeholders (local authorities, religious leaders, private citizens, etc.) able to help DRC identify potential transit sites, collective shelters, host families, vulnerable refugee families Based on the knowledge of the criteria for the selection of the potential interventions, collect and share with the SM all the information relevant to the feasibility of each proposed intervention Help prepare the documentation for the submission of intervention proposals to donors     Others Participate in crosscutting activities inside DRC Lebanon when requested Be available for any other duties relating to the nature of the job as directed by the Shelter Manager Preferable: A candidate with good knowledge of the area   Experience and Qualifications:  - University degree, preferably related to Position - Social Worker experience / experience in working in shelters           - NGO experience - Excellent interpersonal and reporting skills            - Good communication and organizational skills       - Commitment to the values, vision and mission of DRC     - Good computer skills (PowerPoint, Word, Excel…),           - Self-motivated and good team spirit - Ability to speak, read and write Arabic (native Arabic speaker) and English     Duration:   Until Dec. 31st- 2013; renewable (depending on performance and funding)    Starting date: As soon as possible   Conditions:   DRC offers a competitive local salary and benefits package.
