Community Trainer (Fire Safety & Mitigation)

Role and Responsibilities Working as an important member of a diverse team, the employee will be responsible 1) creating a fire awareness and safety curriculum 2) community mobilization and training in ITS, and 3) assembling and distributing emergency fire kits. Project Overview The conflict in Syria has erupted into a full-scale civil war endangering lives in almost every community in the country. Desperate families, caught in the crossfire, are leaving everything behind and fleeing into neighbouring countries. Lebanon, one of these countries, has received a large influx of refugees from Syria. In response to the Syrian Crisis and the resulting influx of refugees into Lebanon, Medair is teaching fire safety and mitigation measures to complement currently existing shelter, site planning and GIS mapping. Founded in 1989, Medair’s unwavering commitment continues to bring hope to the world’s most vulnerable.  Key Activity Areas Curriculum Design of a contextually relevant ‘fire awareness and safety’ curriculum. Community Mobilization establish and train groups within ITS in the above curriculum and monitor continuous peer training Emergency Fire Kits assemble and distribute emergency fire kits to ITS on completion of training Qualifications Academic studies in a relevant field. Languages Strong working knowledge of Arabic and English (spoken and written) Experience / Competencies Previous experience with firefighting services or fire safety training Previous experience with curriculum development Previous experience with community mobilization and training, preferably with a NGO Good working knowledge of geography and culture of the Bekaa Valley region Takes initiative, is a self-starter and creative thinker  Passionate about working as part of a dynamic and encouraging team Passionate about serving the poor Willing to support others and share workloads Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels
