Assignment
The nurse will be based in Kamed el Loz, West Bekaa. He/She will be assigned to the operations of a mobile clinic serving the surrounding villages of the area.
Main responsibilities:
Provide nursing care to all the patients in the villages visited by the mobile clinic.
Implement appropriate protocols through all the medical activities.
Main responsibilities and activities of the nurse can change according to the organization of the mobile clinic and to the composition of the team
Main Activities:
1. Preparation:
Participate to the loading and unloading of the vehicles and to the setting up of the medical clinics.
Contribute to the effort to ensure that needed items for clinic activities are ready before leaving the base.
Prepare and update on a regular basis the lists of drugs, material, furniture and stationeries needed the clinic. Update all the forms and documents needed for the mobile clinics (in collaboration with the Medical coordinator).
2. Medical activities:
Follow the basic medical rules of hygiene and ensure the rest of the staff does it.
Take the weight, temperature, blood pressure and pulse. If needed: pregnancy, urine and blood glucose tests.
Perform injections; change a wound dressing and any other needed nursing activity.
Explain the treatment to the patient and give individual health education related to the patient’s disease.
3. Organization and data collection:
Support the SW in the triage activities
Fill in the data required for data analysis: diagnosis, morbidity data, epidemical signs, etc..
Check the immunization, tuberculosis and hepatitis status
Collect, analyze and send the weekly data and reports in coordination with Medical Supervisor
4. Medication management:
Distribute drugs according to the medical prescription
Ask the medical consultants to complete their prescription in case of incomplete information (dosage, duration, etc)
Indicate the dosage of the drugs on the drug dispensing bag
Explain to the patient how to take his treatment and explain the side effects
Fill in the daily consumption book for each item
Perform monthly inventory of the mobile clinic drugs
5. To perform health education sessions (in collaboration with the SW).
Prepare different tools for health education sessions
Diffuse main messages on health on certain topics (e.g. hygiene, safe water, nutrition, immunization, postnatal and antenatal care, family planning, diarrhoea) in the waiting area
Promotion of the use of ORS during all the diarrheic episodes (preparation, preserving, use).
6. Share with the medical team leader any problem (medical or non medical) in the medical clinic.
7. AOB as required for a smooth implementation of the program
8. Nutritional screening
Take the weight, height or MUAC of all the children between 6 and 59 months
Fill in properly the screening nutritional form
Point out to the medical doctors all the malnourished children
Follow the malnourished children admitted in the program and participate in active search to minimize defaulters
