Shelter Project Assistant

Role and Responsibilities Working as an important member of a diverse team, the Shelter Project Assistant is responsible for assisting the Shelter Project Manager to plan, develop, monitor and evaluate the assigned shelter project(s), providing technical support as well as meeting quality standards, encouraging beneficiary participation, liaising with other stakeholders and managing and training staff. The position-holder is responsible for supporting the following activities-assessment of community needs, designing projects, writing proposals and reporting on the projects in line with the objectives, timeframe and budget.  Project Overview In response to the Syrian Crisis Medair’s programme is delivering emergency assistance to Syrian refugees through winterization activities in Lebanon in the sector of Shelter, WASH and NFIs.  Medair Medair brings life-saving relief and rehabilitation in disasters, conflict areas, and other crises by working alongside the most vulnerable. Founded in 1989, Medair’s unwavering commitment continues to bring hope to the world’s most vulnerable.   Workplace Starting Date Contract Details Zahle, Lebanon ASAP until 31.03.2013    Key Activity Areas Project Management Assist in coordinating the shelter project activities in order to meet the project objectives within budget and within the allotted time frame, using a comprehensive activity plan (gantt, logical framework, and budget). Assist in setting clear objectives and indicators for activities. Continuously monitor and supervise activities, overseeing the technical design, execution and evaluation of progress through outputs and impacts using both quantitative and qualitative data. Participate in ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities according to Medair, donor and other applicable timeframes. Financial Management Provide support in managing the shelter budget for the assigned project and ensure all expenses are according to budget. Communication and Coordination Develop and maintain appropriate, regular, transparent and supportive communication structures with the Project Manager, the assigned team, Medair in-country and other relevant stakeholders. Logistics Ensure good communication between the project staff and the support staff so that items are procured, transported, stored, managed and accounted for correctly. Quality Management Monitor that the shelter projects and outputs are implemented in line with donor proposals and requirements and in accordance with Medair, donor, country and international standards i.e. Sphere and HAP standards.   Qualifications   Higher level qualification in a technical field, and/ or significant technical experience in engineering / surveying   Languages Strong working knowledge of Arabic and English (spoken and written)   Experience / Competencies 2 years post-qualification professional experience in a relevant field; Experience using GIS software and / or using CAD software an asset Team-player with good inter-personal skills Aptitude for community mobilisation and capacity-building Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels Ability and willingness to manage project implementation Able to prioritise clearly and oversee multiple tasks Able to set clear objectives for staff and to delegate Passionate about serving the most vulnerable Strong character traits-adaptability, flexibility, honesty, integrity
