Data Analyst   Location Lebanon Field Office –BeirutArea Type of Appointment Consultant Deadline for Application 27 December 2012 Vacancy Announcement Number 938/2012 Department/Division Programme & Support Office   BACKGROUND and RATIONALE Through the immediate Response Facility Programme of the Peacebuilding Fund, UNRWA, UNICEF, and the ILO will focus on maintaining Palestinian refugee youth away from violent paths and having them gainfully occupied, through selected high-impact projects which stabilize their socio-economic environment. This project involves vocational training, the establishment of youth empowerment and job creation programme, and micro-credit facilities.   In the context of Palestinain refugees inLebanon, there is a demonstrated link between self-employment and improved living standards. With this in mind, UNRWA aims to provide qualify business development services as a cornerstone for improving level of self-reliance and economic status of Palestinian refugees, particularly youth.   MISSION Under the auspices of Programme Support Office, the Self-Employment Initiative seeks one data analyst. With the supervision of the Self-Employment Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for the data processing and data analysis for the market study on business operating inside camps.   MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures, the Data Analyst will be responsible of the development of the project’s dataset for businesses operating inside camps. This will include, but not limited to:  (A)     Assist in the coordination of the data collection and entry activities to be conducted in camps located inBeirutand north ofLebanon; (B)     Responsible for the data processing and analysis. S/He will be responsible of the development of the statistical annexes of the final report; (C)     Assist the research team in the coordination and the implementation of 8 focus groups; (D)     Assist the research team in any other assignment that is required to ensure the smooth operation of the market study for business operating inside camps.   PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES (A)   Academic and Professional        A university degree in the field of statistics, economics, marketing or in any other related fields.   (B)   Experience        Up to two years of relevant work experience in dealing with large statistical datasets, Indicators and quantitative research. Knowledge of the statistical software is a must, mainly SPSS.   (C)   Language        Excellent communication skills in Arabic and English.   DESRIABLE QUALIFICATIONS i)        Intricate knowledge of and experience in Palestinian refugee camps; ii)      Willingness to work in Palestinian refugee camps 50% of the time; iii)     A commitment to UN values of non-discrimination on the basis of race, gender, economic status, or religion. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE: Salary: Monthly salary (full package) USD $1,200.- Contract Duration: Five months (Not Extendable).   EQUIVALENCY Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered.   GENERAL INFORMATION UNRWA is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications equally from men and women.
