Protection & Information Officer

JOB PURPOSE: NRC has established a Community Centre in Rama, Wadi Khaled for displaced Syrians in Lebanon.  This project mainly reaches out to Syrian families in and around the areas of Wadi Khaled.  NRC seeks to provide information and counselling services relating to access to services; legal status and other related matters.  NRC also aims to strengthen the understanding of any protection issues faced by those displaced and, in coordination with other actors, identify ways to address these issues.  The Protection and Information Officer in the North will be primarily responsible for preparing legal/information documents; designing and leading assessments (such as focus groups, interviews and questionnaires); providing information and counselling; conducting outreach sessions; attending coordination meetings with relevant stakeholders and participating in other relevant activities.   DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepare mapping (including written format) of relevant services being provided by other actors. Assist with standardisation of NRC protection and information response in the North. Conduct regular assessments (including focus groups, interviews, questionnaires) in the Centre and in identified areas, including in new potential areas of work and for identified target groups. Keep record of results of assessments; analyse results and prepare report on protection needs. Identify and assess main protection and information needs of target communities. Conduct information and counselling sessions for beneficiaries in the Centre and in the course of outreach work (including mobile information clinics). Assist in the sensitisation of the Syrian and host communities on the existing activities offered at the Centre. Prepare documents containing legal and related information for target communities. Work closely with other Protection and Information NRC staff, including Information Officer in Qubayat and relevant Social Field Assistants. Work in team with relevant NRC staff to design, plan and coordinate activities at the Community Centre, outreach and related activities. Receive technical input from ICLA Lebanon team. Work cooperatively with the beneficiaries and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen the project. Constantly monitor and follow-up on the quality of services provided at the Community Centres and outreach work. Assist in providing information to and cooperating with community representatives and relevant authorities. Have a clear idea about activities other institutions working in the same area are carrying out with displaced Syrians and, as relevant, attend coordination and protection meetings. Contribute to the development of referral mechanisms in collaboration with the UN, other NGOs and NRC Managers. Attend and participate in relevant meetings, in coordination with relevant NRC staff. Assist in designing the needed forms, questionnaires and other templates. Maintain archiving system up to date (both in hardcopies and electronically). Report weekly & monthly (or more often, if required) on activities and results to the relevant NRC staff. Carry out administrative tasks as agreed upon. Perform any other task as assigned by NRC management.   Experience Required Experience in legal and/or protection work – at least two years. Experience in providing information and counselling services. Experience in community sensitisation/mobilization. Ability to work under pressure   Educational Requirements University education in Law; Legal Services or Social Sciences required.   Additional Qualities a Successful Candidate Should Possess Team spirit Flexibility Strong communication (fluency in Arabic and English) and organisational skills.  Strong Computer Skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
