Main Functions & Duties
The Gender Consultant will extend across the board gender-technical advice to AWO team. Acting in advisory capacity, the Gender Consultant will:
- Support the production of an inception report together with data collection and capture tools following an initial process of consultations with the AWO team;
- Review project deliverables from a gender perspective (from conceptualization to implementation) prior to external validation, identifying gaps and assisting in the setting of priorities on a rolling basis;
- Support the development of a comprehensive gender mainstreaming strategy for the project, accounting for the project’s regional scope and dimension;
- Review with a gender lens all project ouputs
-Facilitate the validation process with key and select stakeholders, ensuring that recommendations derived from the analysis are captured and incorporated, taking into account Advisory Committee’s feedback;
-Assist AWO team members in the set up of a system for the monitoring of progress in gender mainstreaming as related to the project’s objectives and deliverables;
-Analyze, synthesize and draft communications related to gender equality and women empowerment;
-Provide technical support to and identify opportunities for the development of relevant advocacy and communication/information materials to address gender inequality issues.
Experience
-8-10 years of working experience in the field of gender analysis;
-Established track record of excellence in analytical work on gender and women empowerment policy issues, as demonstrated through major written outputs (reports, published papers);
-Expert understanding of quantitative and qualitative research design and methods and statistical analysis.
-High quality and attention to detail in research tasks.
-Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to express complex ideas in simple ways, and interpret data and present results that can meet various audiences needs
-Excellent knowledge of quantitative research design, statistical analysis and benchmarking indices
Qualifications
-Advanced degree in gender studies (preferably a Ph.D.), or other social sciences discipline with a concentration in gender;
- At least 5 years working experience in the field of gender;
- Some experience in the working on gender issues in the Arab region;
- Demonstrated understanding of theory and methodology of gender mainstreaming.
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Additionally, demonstrated capacity in at least two of the following areas: gender and governance discourses in the Arab World; civil society development; poverty alleviation; women empowerment;
- Excellent written and oral English and Arabic
