Médecins sans Frontières is a non- profit private international association whose main objective is to provide medical and humanitarian assistance to population in distress irrespective of race, religion, creed or political convictions.
MSF provides independent, impartial assistance to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters.
Scope of responsibilities: Under the overall management of the MTL supervises and supports the IEC component of the project and participate in its development; establishes a communication network with the community; organizes meetings and presentations to raise awareness on health issues, mental health and health messages needed to be sent to the community; promote MSF services; offers Information Education Communication (IEC) interventions according to the objectives of the project. Technically supporrted by the Communication Officer when required.
Health Promotion / IEC:
Organize educational and sensitization sessions for the target population focused on health messages & promotion, Mental Health and services offered by MSF, within MSF clinics sites and in the community when required;
Promote MSF and raise awareness about mental health at household level.
Sensitize about mental health medical staff of the health facilities present in the community strengthening referrals’ mechanisms to MSF services.
Establish a network of contacts with authorities, religious leaders and popular committees, understanding their role within the community and closely working with them to develop strategies in educating the population about the importance of Mental Health.
Improve the understanding of the target population on Mental Health.
Assist the medical team to ensure that proposed interventions are culturally acceptable to the population.
Identify methods of communication and key messages to disseminate in the community to promote the services offered by MSF.
Supported by the communication officer, develop tools to assess the impact of messages in the community.
Supported by the Communication officer when required, draft and develop IEC materials (tools) such as brochures, leaflets, posters, on mental health according to the needs and cultural aspects identified in the community.
Is always respectful towards patients, collaborators, authorities, military factions and MSF staff participating in meetings or discussions.
