Emergency Water And Sanitation Engineer

JOB SUMMARYThe Water & Sanitation Engineer’s primary contribution is assessing, designing and implementing the water and sanitation hardware portion of humanitarian emergency relief and development projects; while training local staff in maintenance of projects. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Technical assessment and analysis of emergency situations• Design and construction of water distribution networks and storage, including adequate water treatment options • Design and implement activities for construction and/or rehabilitation of sanitary facilities • Design and construction of other health facilities Skills & Requirements: • Engineering degree (emphasis in Water/Sanitation).• 5+ years of relevant work experience (minimum of 3 years in developing country or international development program; refugee camp settings a plus). • Familiarity with relevant technical standards, norms, and current best practice. • Familiarity of cross-cutting issues.• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.• Profound cross-cultural awareness • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.• Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations.• Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively.• Creativity and the ability to work with limited resources.• Excellent decision making skills.• Must work independently under difficult conditions.
