DEPUTY CHIEF OF PARTY   Brief about EDC:   Education Development Center (EDC) is one of the world’s leading nonprofit research and development firms. Our services include research, training, educational materials, and strategy, with activities ranging from seed projects to large-scale national and international initiatives.     The Lebanon Developing Rehabilitation Assistance to Schools and Teacher Improvement Project (D-RASATI) in the International Development Division (IDD) has an opening for a Deputy Chief of Party, reporting to the Chief Of Party, in Lebanon.   Project description Developing Rehabilitation Assistance to Schools and Teachers Improvement (D-RASATI) will improve educational outcomes in Lebanon by improving teacher and student performance, increasing community and parental involvement, and improving the school learning environment. The D-RASATI program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).     ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.   The Deputy Chief of Party has delegated responsibility from the Chief of Party in leading and managing an D-RASATI ’s administrative, programmatic, technical, and operational aspects in the field.  The DCOP’s work is done in collaboration with Home Office Project Director and in accordance with EDC, USAID, and host country requirements — to achieve project success. S/he:   Assists the COP in overseeing D-RASATI administrative, programmatic, and operational implementation in Lebanon; Supervises project implementation, with a concentration in Component 3 (Teaching and Learning, which includes teacher training and improvement of schools’ extracurricular activities) and compliance with EDC, USAID, and host country requirements. Works closely with the Senior Management Council and assists them in design, development, and implementation of program activities; Manages D-RASATI communications, reporting, and deliverables submissions; Collaborates with the Senior Financial Officer to make sure that necessary USAID and host country regulatory compliance directives are implemented and proper policies and procedures are enforced.; Coordinates work of designated activity leaders; Recommends policies and procedures to improve efficiency and quality; Supervises EDC staff; assigns roles and responsibilities; manages performance; Conveys organizational philosophy and values Demonstrates diplomacy and leadership to foster an atmosphere of teamwork, productivity, creativity, fairness, equity, and innovation, in support of EDC’s commitment to diversity Negotiates and mediates effectively Coordinates with the activities of subgrantees and partners in a way that creates synergy Fosters excellent communications among all parties, including with EDC home offices Travels Interfaces with the appropriate stakeholder officials and USAID; Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork, productivity, creativity, fairness, equity, and innovation; Facilitates external interactions with program participants and partners;   QUALIFICATIONS:   This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills.
