Journalism Internship at Hibr.me!   Hibr is an innovative youth-driven alternative media outlet that engages individuals, community organizations, schools, universities, and companies around Lebanon in building public awareness on critical social, economic, environmental and public-interest issues.   Hibr believes that everybody can and should be a contributor to the media, and works to empower and support non-professional “citizen” journalists to contribute stories, information, ideas, and observations.   We aim to foster a strong sense of community engagement, critical observation and critical thinking, and encourage independent content creation on critical issues.   The Hibr team work out of AltCity, a media / tech / social impact collaboration space in Hamra, Beirut. Hibr and AltCity are sister organizations, and all interns will become part of the one Hibr/AltCity family.   Hibr.me is totally independent of any political or sectarian group or movement.   Intern Responsibilities:   A Hibr intern’s responsibilities might include: Proofreading, fact checking and editing submissions to hibr.me Uploading articles to Hibr.me Uploading photos to Hibr’s Flickr account Promoting new articles on Twitter and Facebook Helping manage Hibr’s social media accounts Writing articles Providing photos, illustrations or other images to accompany your articles Researching article ideas for contributors & keeping track of them using Google Docs Coordinating with writers about article ideas Providing one-on-one guidance to writers Researching upcoming cultural and civil society events in Lebanon & uploading to Hibr.me’s listings Managing the the Hibr.me event listings Being willing and enthusiastic to get involved in all aspects of Hibr Participating in developing specific project ideas   Interns will also become part of the AltCity family, and therefore may get involved in: Workshops/events at AltCity Contributing to the AltCity e-newsletter Assisting the AltCity team in other related media tasks   Exact tasks will be decided with the intern following interview.   Interns receive continuous guidance and training. If required, you will be trained in new media skills.   Minimum requirements: Native Arabic OR native English speaker with sound grasp of grammar and spelling Good knowledge of other language (Arabic/English) an advantage Undergraduate degree in Journalism, Communication Studies, International Relations, International Development or related field 1-2 years of communications/media experience (including journalistic writing online or offline, photography, editing) Web-savvy, including knowledge of social media tools Initiative Creativity Reliability Enthusiasm to learn   Interns must be able to commit to a minimum of 3 months part time (15-20 hours/week).
