Mapping Consultant
Lebanon Reforestation Initiative

Background
The Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) is a Lebanese NGO registered at the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities under no. 1186 on 18 June 2014. LRI is implementing “Influencing Decision-makers to stop Violations and Organize Community Actions Towards Environmental Engagement (I-DVOCATE)” project funded by USAID through the Baladi Cap project. I-DVOCATE aims to advocate for change in knowledge, attitudes and behavior of local communities in the field of forest protection through lobbying for the classification of forest lands in three municipalities in the Rachaiya, Shouf and Byblos regions and through establishing mechanisms in at least three municipalities for improved protection of forests from violations such as illegal cutting, intentional fires and overgrazing, among others.
Purpose of the consultancy
The consultant is expected to conduct three mapping sessions for three municipalities where the project is being implemented Ehmej (Byblos), Kherbet Rouha (Beqaa) and Baadaran (Shouf). The mapping sessions will be attended by the municipal council, members of the Environmental Committee (EC) and the pre-identified advocates for each village. The purpose of conducting these mapping sessions is to coach the attendees to delineate their forest lands and to introduce them to the development of sustainable forest management plans.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The session will be divided into two parts: practical and theoretical
- To conduct a practical session on mapping to delineate the village’s forest lands for submission for classification to the urban planning
- To conduct a theoretical presentation on the development of sustainable forest
Deliverables
- Submit the training materials
- Submit the maps developed during the mapping sessions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry and Mapping or any relevant major related, Master is a plus
- Significant experience and knowledge in environmental advocacy mainly forest protection
- Significant training experience and facilitation skills
- Knowledge in forest protection
- Previous experience in non-governmental organizations
- Fluency in English and Arabic both writing and speaking
Experience required: 5-10 years of experience
Education degree: Bachelor’s Degree
- Field of education: A background in Forestry and Mapping or any relevant major related to the assignment.
