Communication Officer

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been present in Lebanon since 1967 and has carried out its humanitarian work through different periods of conflict, including Lebanon’s 15-year-long civil war from 1975–1990. We are currently responding to the rapidly growing needs of displaced people fleeing war and violence across the region into Lebanon as well as the local communities hosting them.

We are based in Beirut and have offices in Tripoli, Tyr and Zahle.

In 2016, AVINA STIFTUNG, the ICRC and the largest university hospital in Lebanon, Rafik Hariri University Hospital (RHUH), united to launch a project that aims to support and provide the most vulnerable and weapon-wounded patients with access to emergency healthcare, while simultaneously building up the capacity of the RHUH. This partnership is expected to provide innovative solutions to respond effectively to the growing need for emergency health care, develop a long-term project with a regional training component and a regional health care model for war trauma patients and emergency medicine through operational research With the establishment and the growth of the project, the demand for communication support is increasing and with this, the need to provide the necessary resources. To this end, a communication officer is needed to be in charge of the communication component of the RHUH project.

Job purpose:

The communication officer is the focal point for all communication issues related to the ICRC´s project in RHUH. S/he liaises with the Senior Hospital Manager for a holistic understanding of the project´s strategies and objectives and reports to the Communication Coordinator on communication strategies, activities and products. S/he works together with the Resources Mobilization (REM) Unit in Geneva on fundraising and donor reporting. S/he keeps a close contact with the involved departments (Health, Water and Habitat, Economic Security) for a holistic approach to visibility. She works together with the communication team to implement all the activities and reach the agreed-upon objectives.

S/he is responsible for the Project´s public, operational and digital communication, and for the communication aspects linked to fundraising. S/he will develop the project´s communication strategy, action plan and fundraising plan, monitor its implementation and report on its results. S/he will provide all communication support required by the different components of the project and will be the counterpart of the public relations person at the RHUH.

Position within the hierarchy:

This function reports to: Senior Hospital Manager at RHUH

Functional manager: Communication Coordinator

Qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor degree in Communication (Master’s degree is a plus)
  • 5 - 7 years’ work experience in communication field (fundraising with private sector).
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken Arabic and English. (French is a plus)
  • Good computer skills
