Child Protection Officer

With an anticipated start date of 15th July 2018, TDH IT is seeking a qualified Child Protection Officer is responsible to provide technical expertise in the development and supervision of Child Protection activities, with a specific focus on advising and training on the integration of CP approaches to educational activities.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Apply and systematize child protection standards, code of conduct through TDH IT’s implementation of the “BTF” project;
  • Provide training and ongoing mentoring and capacity building support for field teams (including center staff, teacher and volunteers) in relevant CP and PSS skills, approached and behaviors;
  • To visit each of the 5 - TDH IT “BTF” community centers once per week to monitor staff’s performance in terms of applying CP and PSS skills and approaches;
  • To establish and regularly monitor and effective center based CP mapping and referral system for CP cases;
  • Provide regular field- progam team written reports including key recommendations for improvements in terms on integrating CP into the “BTF” program at field- level;
  • To provide an assessment (approx. 3 months needed) and key recommendations report (approx. 1 month needed) on how to integrate CP skills and approaches into the BTF project’s educational activities (linking CP and educational interventions);
  • To provide specific training and monitoring of 10- 12 animators on how to design and conduct structural recreational activities and focused center based PSS activities;
  • To provide specific training and monitoring of 40- 50 bus drivers on how to safely deal with vulnerable children whilst transporting them home-center-home;
  • Refer beneficiaries requiring special care to relevant internal and external CP providers, and follow up the referred cases' conditions in collaboration with the outreach worker of the revenant location;
  • Work with the TDH IT M and E/Data unit to ensure appropriate monitoring and evaluation systems are in place, support staff in all monitoring processes and provide monthly and weekly reports on progress of activities in the centers;
  • Organize monthly meetings with Animators, teachers and Volunteers, to share lessons learned and exchange experiences in terms of CP and PSS activities implementation;
  • Share information on field-level successes and challenges with the team.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject (Psychology, Social Work, Education, Development or Humanitarian studies etc.)

 

Essential:

  • A minimum 2 years’ experience in a program position preferably with Local or International NGOs in the field of child protection;
  • Experience working with Syrian refugee communities in Lebanon is mandatory;
  • Experience of building field staff’s capacities through trainings or learning by doing;
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and proactive training skills;
  • Ability to conceptualize, develop, plan, suggest and manage trainings;
  • Strong commitment to humanitarian and child protection values;
  • A very high sense of discretion and integrity when dealing with child protection cases;
  • Commitment to the aims, principles and values of TDH IT;
  • Substantial experience in emergency and post-crisis environments;
  • Strong cross-cultural sensitivity and flexibility;
  • Proved communication and negotiation skills;
  • Strong commitment to support/develop capacity of local staff
  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Word;
  • Valid Driving license and willingness to travel in Mount Lebanon, Jbeil- Barja- Khenchara-Qobbayaa- Kayfoun
