GYNECOLOGIST

Accountabilities

 

  • Provide health care related to gynecology and obstetrics to patients, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Ensure the implementation of MSF clinical policies, tools, guidelines and protocols related to gynecology and obstetrics in order to minimize clinical risk and to extend best reproductive practices.
  • In collaboration with other medical colleagues, carry out the collection of quantitative gynecological data and ensure exhaustive use of management tools in order to improve gynecological results and to share knowledge among other field specialists. 
  • Ensure proper use of the gynecological equipment
  • Inform supervisors of any problems encountered
  • Be aware of limitation, abilities and knowledge and ask for assistance as required.
  • Respect patients privacy, treat them with care and respect, observing medical ethics.
  • Involve the patient in the decision making process.

 

 

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

 

1.OUT PATIENT DEPARTMENT

• Responsible for both ultrasound and medical consultations of pregnant and postpartum women in OPD, with clear and proper documentation.

•  Gynecologist will cooperate with PHC doctors for the management of certain conditions (i.e. chronic diseases) based on project referral criteria.

  • Ensure complete documentation in patient’s files and registers, including filling out the appropriate form in sending patients to PHC and when referring for complete handover of high risk patients to RHUH, ensure to have good communication with the referring doctors.
  • Follow and manage high risk pregnancies
  • Responsible for the referral of high risk / complicated pregnancies in collaboration with the Gynecologist Team Leader in accordance to high risk referral SOP. Any unusual referrals will be communicated directly to the referral team for the referral process.

 

 

2.         IN-PATIENT DEPARTMENT (IPD)

  • In collaboration with the Midwife, He/She examine the patient and document each  finding on patient’s files  and rationale should  be explain to the other team members.
  • In the absence of the Midwife (if on referral), record data- register patient and complete hospitalization file. Check details with ANC file in OPD.
  • Do daily rounds with the midwife or midwife supervisor, to be updated on the current condition of patients in IPD, management plan should be properly and clearly document.
  • All management plans strictly based on MSF protocols and up-to –date- evidence –based on recommendations/guidelines provided by the Gynecologist Supervisor and ensures rational use of medication “No treatment beyond MSF standard”.
  • Perform ultrasound as needed and as per MSF protocol, documents result on the ultrasound form and attached to patient file.
  • Attend all complicated deliveries and document clearly the events and any examinations/ procedures done.
  • Performs MVA for 1st trimester missed or incomplete abortions according to MSF protocol.
  • Responsible for explaining to the patients and family regarding the complications that occurs and documenting the discussion.
  • Make the final decision of referral based on MSF protocols, WHC referral criteria and clinical judgment –clear documentation of reason and plan.
  • Responsible for accurate documentation on medical report referral form and phone call handover of urgent cases to the referral doctor/ hospital.
  • Observe hygiene and aseptic technique in all procedure.

 

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Conduct normal deliveries when needed.
  • Refer to Mental health or Social worker for support if needed for any patients.
  • Assist midwife with care of the mother when needed-both clinical and documentation of all exams/procedures.
  • Assist midwife/nurse with care of the baby when needing resuscitation
  • Accompany patient on referral if needed.
  • Assist the Gynecologist Team Leader with developing trainings based on needs in the department, case discussions and evidence based practices to improve the quality of care and consultation.
  • Assist in developing/reviewing protocols
  • Assist in preparing the roster.

 

Sleeping during working hours is not permitted.

      Use of mobile phones during patient consultation is not permitted.
