The Shelter Technician will be responsible for conducting technical assessments, technical monitoring and supervision and providing technical advice to beneficiaries and communities. The Shelter Technician will work in parallel with a Community Mobiliser and will spend 60 to 80% of their time in the field. It is anticipated that this role will be needed for 3 months.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Conduct technical assessments of existing tents in informal tented settlements
- Conduct distributions of shelter kits in informal tented settlements
- Distribute fire safety equipment to shelter kit beneficiaries
- Conduct fire safety sessions for distribution beneficiaries
- Manage paperwork related to distributions
- Organize assessments and distributions in the assigned informal settlements in a manner that would allow for a qualitative and quantitative achievement of the targets
- Use digital technology including tabs/pads to administer assessments and distributions
- Spend seven hours in the field conducting assessments and distribution work in informal settlements of Syrian refugees in Lebanon
- Possess the capacity and willingness to understand andevaluate shelter structures
- Support all technical aspects of quality control
- Conduct regular visits to beneficiaries
- Attend and support distributions
- Provide daily/weekly reports, as requested.
- Comply with the relevant policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and otherrelevant policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience:
Minimum 2 years of work experience & experience of basic construction & distributions.
- Skills:
- Minimum diploma OR bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering, architecture, construction, urban planning or other Built Environment related field.
- Familiar with technical aspects of humanitarian shelter and Humanitarian principles
- Familiar with construction; including concrete and block works, plumbing, contracting.
- Proficiency on Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel, including management of Excel databases
- Good time management and organizational skills
- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic (English language skills advantageous)
- Strength in interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and teamwork
- Flexibility and willingness to change work practices and hours, and capability to work in insecure environment
- Familiarity with the relevant geographic areas
