USAID’s Improving Public Education Outcomes (IPEO) Program in Lebanon seeks to improve learning outcomes for all students in public primary schools. The activity targets an estimated 200,000 girls and boys, including those who are registered in second shifts of public schools.
The Social and Emotional Learning Specialist will provide technical guidance to the Center for Educational Research and Development (CERD) and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) on social and emotional learning in schools. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic individual with demonstrated experience working with government and non-governmental stakeholders on similar technical activities and has previous experience working on US government funded programs, and able to work effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Recruitment is contingent upon successful award of the project.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical vision and support to Center for Educational Research and Development (CERD), Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) and the project on social emotional learning (SEL) and psychosocial (PSS) support in line with evidence based good practice;
- Serve as liaison with government on issues pertaining to SEL;
- Conduct monitoring of SEL activities, and review monitoring data;
- Develop tools to support teachers in learning and implementing SEL practices in the classroom;
- Provide technical leadership to conduct assessment and monitoring of SEL activities;
- Provide technical guidance to the Chief of Party and Deputy Chief of Party, internal and external consultant/service contract partners;
- Travel regularly throughout Lebanon to monitor and follow-up on project activities;
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in education, social sciences or a relevant field;
- A minimum of five years of demonstrated relevant experience;
- Technical expertise in social and emotional learning, psycho-social support;
- Demonstrated experience working on donor funded projects with similar scopes of work;
- Demonstrated knowledge of USAID rules, regulations, and reporting requirements desired;
- Full professional proficiency in spoken and written English and Arabic is required and in French preferred. Must be able to use the language fluently and accurately and be able to read all styles and forms on all levels pertinent to professional needs;
