Arabic Curriculum Specialist - Improving Public Education Outcomes program

Chemonics International, a leading international organization based in Washington, D.C., seeks an Arabic Curriculum Specialist for the USAID-funded Improving Public Education Outcomes (IPEO) Program. The project aims to support the Ministry of Education (MEHE) and Center for Education and Research and Development (CERD) to improve reading, writing, and social and emotional learning skills of girls and boys in public primary schools in Lebanon. The program will support the public education system’s overall capacity to plan, budget, deliver, monitor, evaluate and institutionalize quality educational services by providing in-depth technical assistance to the CERD and the MEHE after assessing their institutional needs and gaps. Improving the use of data for enrollment, retention and learning will be essential for sustained outcomes. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. 

Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • Develop Arabic Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) tools for students in Grade 1 – 6
  • Draft Arabic language reading subtasks such as reading vocabulary and reading passages with comprehension questions
  • Ensure the alignment of tools content with the Arabic language national curriculum and the EGRA tools previously elaborated on in Lebanon
  • Modify the content of the tools based on discussions with Arabic language experts and education specialists
  • MA or PhD in Arabic language or education required
  • Minimum of 10 years of Arabic language teaching experience in primary schools required
  • Experience in writing books or stories for children preferred
  • Experience in developing Arabic language assessments tools preferred
