ASSESSMENT AND CAPACITY BUILDING CONSULTANT, IRAQ

The consultant will work closely with IWPR to identify partner media institutions and human resources needs as well as knowledge and skills gaps. This also includes identifying staff who will be trained and supported throughout the project, as well the basic equipment needed.

The consultant will design a series of trainings to 1) improve partners’ journalistic and media skills 2) use radio to promote peace and reconciliation 3) fundraise.  The project should take no more than 40 days in total.

Develop & Design Needs Assessment:

• Develop methodology to be approved by IWPR Iraq Programme Director;
• Conduct a needs assessment of each radio entity as well as a SWOT analysis;
• Develop recommendations for equipment, programming, human resources and necessary deliverables of the above-mentioned project;
• Provide IWPR with a list of potential trainees and management personnel qualified to assist in achieving project objectives.

Deliver Radio Journalism Training:

• Design and deliver a four-day training curricula in basic journalism;
• Introduce trainees to basic radio reporting, interviewing and packaging;
• Verifying and diversifying sources;
• Media and journalistic ethics;
• Studio and outdoor recording;
• Music production, copyright and use of sound effects;
• Provide M&E material for pre & post training tests according to IWPR requirements and templates;
• Producing an evaluative report of the conducted course according to IWPR’s template.

Deliver Conflict Sensitive Reporting Training:

• Design and deliver a three day training for conflict sensitive reporting;
• Explain role of conflict-sensitive media/communication in peace building;
• Strengthen the participants’ understanding of conflict analysis and resolution;
• Improve participants’ ability to mitigate conflict through their reporting;
• Develop skills to work professionally and produce material to international standards;
• Provide M&E material for pre & post training tests according to IWPR requirements and templates;
• Producing an evaluative report of the course according to an IWPR template.
