IT Specialist

The Lebanon Community Support Program (CSP) is a multi-year project funded by USAID to support municipalities and underserved and vulnerable communities in providing better services and enhanced economic opportunities to improve lives and reduce tensions that contribute to conflict and violence, primarily in Lebanon’s North, South, and Bekaa regions

  1. Summary of Position

The IT Specialist is responsible for IT support and the administration of IT systems in the project field office. The IT Specialist is responsible for setting up and maintaining the CSP IT infrastructure, applying methods for the proper and efficient use of IT, implementing procedures to ensure integrity of data, managing servers (archiving, print, security), safeguarding project information, and troubleshooting IT issues in the field offices. The IT Specialist may also be responsible for providing remote support to small sub offices outside Beirut.

 

  1. Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the IT Specialist include, but are not limited to:

  • Set-up and configure new machines in conformity with project and OTI standards;
  • Maintenance and control of software and hardware related to servers, firewalls, switches, desktop computers, laptops, printers, scanners, etc. in conjunction with Chemonics home office standards;
  • Ensure project offices are properly wired for back-up electricity;
  • Liaise with IT equipment and service providers to secure, install, configure, and maintain an Internet connection appropriate for each office environment, computer hardware and software, including email service, shared-file directory, printing, network, and security;
  • Provide Office 365 support to project staff and troubleshoot on issues relating to syncing, and SharePoint.
  • Monitor and administer network infrastructure, including switches, firewall, and domain controller, as well as document LAN operations, to identify potential problems and develop solutions;
  • Add or remove domain work stations;
  • Oversee network security by ensuring all computers have anti-virus/internet security software and running regular scans to keep systems and the local area network safe;
  • Provide training to project staff on best internet security practices;
  • Provide formal and informal training to staff on how to use Chemonics technology solutions;
  • Administer and manage IT equipment, including inventory management, software versions, workstation patching and security updates, licenses, etc.;
  • Conduct audits of project staff following agreed upon security policies and procedures as established with the project senior management team and Chemonics home office IT department;
  • Monitor use of IT systems and internet service to ensure staff are getting optimal service at all times;
  • Provide technical support and troubleshoot hardware and software application issues for project personnel and consultants on a timely basis;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

  1. Place of Assignment

The IT Specialist will be based in the project’s main office in Beirut, and may be required to travel infrequently to other regions (North, South, Bekaa).

 

  1. Qualifications
  • At least three (3) years of experience working with information technology
  • High school diploma required, University degree in IT is preferred.
    Ability to work in a professional and cordial manner with fellow staff members, visitors, partner institutions including international and local NGOs, governmental entities, support organizations, and the general public.
  • Experience with Office 365, SharePoint, and iCloud is required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to prioritize multiple work assignments in an extremely fast-paced environment, to meet deadlines, and to exercise professional judgment that reflects positively on the team.
  • Experience working with international organizations preferred.
  • Professional proficiency speaking, reading, and writing English and Arabic required.

 

  1. Reporting

The IT Specialist will report directly to the Office Manager or equivalent.
