Protection Coordinator

Supervision of case management and psychosocial support interventions with vulnerable women, men and children with a focus on children and their caregivers’ survivors of violence, abuse, exploitation and neglect. In addition, has the overall responsibility to ensure that quality psychosocial support activities both community-based and focused are delivered to children and caregivers in a timely and efficient manner.

Responsibilities: (in bullet points)

➢ Staff supervision

1. Supervise CP caseworkers and CBPSS Assistant

2. Ensure that child protection caseworkers provide CP case management in compliance with best-practice and international standards in CP response and in adherence to the principles and guidance of the National CP Case Management SOPs, including mandatory reporting requirements

3. Support caseworkers through the provision of technical guidance. Ensure that staff implement and respect best-practice and international standards in CP response

4. Provide age and gender appropriate technical guidance to CP caseworkers on case management and psychosocial support to girls and boys in need of case management including on child labor, neglect and abuse

5. Ensure all CP caseworkers are familiar, practice and adhere to the Child Protection Minimum Standards and the National CP Case Management SOPs

6. Hold inter-agency case conference meetings for high-risk cases when needed

7. Ensure that all high risk cases in which judicial intervention is required are referred immediately to UPEL with the support and input of the case workers.

8. Supervise the case workers in their provision of age-appropriate quality psychosocial support in mobile and static safe spaces and child-friendly spaces including awareness/information sessions

9. Ensure the team is trained and provide coaching on PSS toolkits, approaches and curricula for caregivers, children

10. Ensure that all spaces where activities are implemented meet interagency standards for safe spaces whether mobile or static

11. Ensure that the PSS team meets a minimum amount of referrals to case management, focused/community-based PSS, specialized or inter-sectorial services on a monthly basis

12. Hold weekly team meetings to discuss challenges and successes faced in implementation

 

➢ Grant implementation and reporting

13. Produce monthly reports in submitting internal and donor reports as per schedule

14. Monthly monitor of the efficient and accurate updating of the CP case management database. Compile the data and make note of trends observed

15. Monthly auditing of filing procedures

16. Bi-weekly review of open cases using case supervision tools and develop systems for regular supervision of case management

17. Prepare and submit weekly and monthly work plans in a timely manner

18. Lead weekly supervisory meetings to ensure adherence to standards of care and appropriate case management

19. In coordination with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) officer, ensure the quality implementation of the grants’ MEL plan. Share the results and lessons learned in a timely fashion with the relevant parties

20. Monitor the progress of project targets against indicators on a weekly basis

21. Contribute to the overall protection monthly report underlining protection issues and related trends and figures

22. Write field visit daily and weekly reports on major findings, needs and problems faced;

23. Support in leading the community dialogue and initiatives;

➢ Coordination and representation

24. Develop and maintain effective working relationship with relevant stakeholders including partner agencies, community leaders and service providers

25. Advocate for the needs of vulnerable children both internally and through coordination mechanisms through evidence-based advocacy

26. Maintain an up-to-date service mapping of the service providers operating in the area and ensure that caseworkers are informed about the available services

27. Actively participate in training platforms such as IRC’s Peer 2 Peer program

28. Actively participate and contribute to child protection and other relevant coordination mechanisms

 

Experience and technical competencies required: (include years of experience)

  • At least 3 years of experience in international organizations and humanitarian settings, specifically in Child Protection or GBV sectors
  • Experience managing teams
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination and safety of client at all times;
  • Ability to provide technical support, trainings and supervision of CP caseworkers
  • Experience providing on the job coaching and mentoring and building capacity of staff
  • Excellent knowledge of Child Protection and GBV minimum standards and basic principles
  • Excellent knowledge of psychosocial support basic principles and PSS key messages to vulnerable children and caregivers
  • Excellent knowledge of child and adult development and learning
  • Excellent knowledge of basic facilitation skills
  • Excellent knowledge of safe identification and referral principles
  • Good knowledge of Child Protection case management
  • Computer Literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint)
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility
  • Comfortable in a multicultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well

Strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail
