Protection Officer (Legal)

About the job

The Protection Officer (legal) is expected to conduct legal awareness sessions for beneficiaries of DRC and provide legal counseling related to the legal status of person of concerns and House Land & Property (HLP) rights in accordance with client’s best interest with the aims and principles of DRC. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:


• Develop and disseminate informational materials in relation to civil documentation, residency, labor and HLP issues in particular.
• Ensure capacity building for the protection staff and any other sector staff to provide basic counseling, delivering legal awareness sessions and mediation.
• Work closely with protection team and provide legal awareness sessions in collaboration with protection department to ensure refugees are aware about their rights. 
• Inform refugees and asylum seekers about project activities and their legal rights and counsel them on means by which they may receive assistance from DRC, partner organizations, or the government.
• Provide monthly reports to the Protection Manager on activities and numbers of beneficiaries reached.
• Promote rights of refugees, asylum seekers and other persons of concern and ensure best possible application of international human rights standards.
• Conduct legal sensitization and information sessions to all of DRC's and partner beneficiaries adapted to information needs observed or identified.
• Identifying and referring individuals in need of legal consultation and/or representation.
• Assisting, supporting and counselling beneficiaries on obtaining/renewing civil and identity documentation (e.g. accompanying and guiding beneficiaries to local authorities, general security …).

About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have university degree in Lebanese Law, or another related field. Moreover, we also expect the following:​

Required
• 2-3 years in a similar position.
• Familiarity with international protection and human rights legal standards.
• Understanding of the humanitarian values and a commitment to assist the most vulnerable.
• Excellent communication skills.

Desirable
• Good knowledge of refugee context, as well as demonstrated ability to identify and refer vulnerable cases (

We offer

  • Contract length: 4 months until March 2019
  • Level:  C1, Monthly Basic Salary USD 1650.
  • Duty Station: Bekaa
  • Start date: December 2018​
