Overview
The Project worker will recruit and work with volunteers who will engage with the local communities and identify and record the cultural heritage of the communities using digital technology.

This position is based in Lebanon and the post holder will be required to travel in-country to project locations. Travel and all country-based activities will be supported to ensure staff safety at all times. Housing, travel and medical allowances will be made in addition to the project fee. The post holder must be available during the entire project period and must attend all training sessions.
Project Objectives
The project will identify and record the cultural heritage of the communities living in the identified camps using digital technology.
Volunteers, supported by Project Workers, will work with the community to
- identify, research and document intangible cultural heritage
- use digital techniques to record and catalogue this heritage
The information will be
- shared with the community
- made available to all through the American University of Beirut
The project will engage the community through outreach work to
- help to generate community understanding
- signpost other collections and information depositories.
- build links and understanding between the refugee and non-refugee population
- build the skills of the volunteers
The project will offer training to staff members and volunteers including
- Introduction to heritage
- Oral history training
- The use of ICT equipment
- Recording and interpretation
- Cataloguing and Archiving
- Community engagement
Duties:
- Manage and document the Cultural Heritage Project
- Manage the recruitment of volunteers through a range of engagement techniques
- Organise and support induction training for volunteers
- Deliver community engagement activities within regions
- Document and preserve cultural heritage in line with the quality guidelines issued by the American University of Beirut (full training will be provided)
Responsibilities include:
- Ensure all project staff and volunteers adhere to the policies and procedures
- Ensure all project staff and volunteers use digital technology
- Comply with all reporting procedures
- Assist with, and ensure, project objectives are achieved
- Ensure volunteers record and preserve cultural heritage responsibly
Education/Training/Qualifications:
Essential Criteria:
- Applicants must have completed secondary level education and have qualifications equivalent to A level e.g. Baccalauréat Libanais, Baccalauréat Technique
Desirable Criteria:
- Qualification equivalent to Degree level
- Qualification/s relating to the following: Sociology, Economics, Human Rights, international development, international studies, languages
Knowledge and Experience :
Essential Criteria:
- Project planning and management
- Co-ordinating and supporting volunteers
- Delivering training sessions for volunteers
- Delivering safeguarding policies and procedures
- Managing Project budget
Desireable Criteria
- Knowledge of NGO strategies and policies
- Experience of monitoring and evaluating project objectives
- Knowledge of appropriate national/international procedures and policies and regulatory codes
- Conducting research and evaluations
Practical skills:
Essential Criteria:
- Ability to communicate effectively to diverse group of people
- Ability to provide leadership of volunteers
- Interpret project objectives
- Excellent and effective written and oral skills
- Ability to use IT
- Be proficient in English and Arabic
Desireable Criteria
- Ability to communicate in middle-eastern dialects
- Ability to use a wide range of digital technology including film recording
Specialist Knowledge:
Essential Criteria
- Experience of working with NGOs
Desireable Criteria
- Experience of working with NGOs in Lebanon/Middle East
- Liaising with NGOs/ Government officials
- Specialist knowledge around intangible Cultural Heritage
- Specialist knowledge in documenting and preserving intangible heritage/physical artefacts
- Delivering cultural heritage focused projects

Personal Circumstances
- Must be legally entitled to work in Lebanon

- Commitment to travel as necessary within the project delivery country for the entire length of project (see dates)
