Social Worker

Within the above framework, the social worker will be required to take on the following responsibilities:

  • Assess social situation and social needs of individuals and families;
  • Facilitate and encourage the participation to the activities of the Centre, by offering information, support and advocacy as well as ensuring proper attention to specific emotional and physical needs;
  • Assist, develop and conduct age-appropriate recreational and psychosocial support activities for vulnerable individuals and hosting communities, including outreach activities and community events;
  • Follow up and monitor the beneficiaries and their families through individual sessions, phone calls and/or house visits
  • Lead the safe identification and referral of cases that require specific intervention in coordination with the PSS Team;
  • Map existing needs and participate in the psychosocial needs assessment;
  • Attend and participate to training and capacity building activities organized by IOM and by other national and internationally partners;
  • Ensure that the activities are done in a clean, safe, quiet and comfortable location;
  • Ensure that all beneficiaries participate in the activities in a non-discriminatory as well as age and gender sensitive and appropriate approach;
  • Ensure that participants to the workshop are aware of IOM accountability/complaint mechanisms;
  • Perform any other relevant duty as may be assigned.

Administrative tasks

  • Develop a weekly and monthly schedule of activities and contribute to the definition of the Centre’s activity program;
  • Collect attendance of participants in the activities, and fill in weekly reports on the sessions conducted, case referral and follow up, visits, etc. as required;
  • Develop individual and group progress report and maintain a filing system of participants respecting confidentiality;
  • Collect and document feedback on the implementation of the activities including challenges and lessons learnt;
  • Plan and identify materials and any kind of support required in the interventions on monthly basis;
  • Respect and abide to IOM internal code of conduct;
  • Perform any other relevant duty as may be assigned.

- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Social Work.
- Post-graduate studies in psychosocial animation in post emergency settings, psychosocial support and dialogue, will be an asset.
- At least 2 years of previous experiences in emergencies settings.

- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
- Ability to draft clearly and concisely;
- Dynamism and initiative;
- Demonstrated gender awareness and gender sensitivity;
- Knowledge of psychosocial guidelines and approaches related to emergency settings (MHPSS IASC guidelines, PFA guidelines, etc.);
- Familiarity with validated psychosocial support methodologies and tools in Lebanon;
- Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds;
- Ability to work under pressure;
- Ability to effectively assess psychosocial needs and support persons in crisis;
- Ability to formulate a social intervention plan
- Ability to identify and mobilize resources in the person/family/community;
- Personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility and drive for results;
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word and Excel.
