Institute for War and Peace Reporting
Institute for War & Peace Reporting is an independent non-profit organization that works with media and civil society to promote positive change in conflict zones closed societies, and countries in transition around the world.
Under the projects titled Women’s Empowerment for Peacebuilding in Syria which is funded by
the Department of State, IWPR aims to work with Syrian women and reporters to increase the
participation of Syrian women, youth and marginalized groups in public and political life as
positive change agents and promoters of a multi-ethnic, multi-religious society that respects the
rights of all people.
The training will deliver advocacy techniques aimed at fostering women, youth and
marginalized groups’ participation in local decision-making processes, specifically in relation to
SGBV and Reconciliation and it will target staff members currently managing partner and IWPR
centers so they can in turn train those who frequent the centers (Trainer of Trainer).
In this regard, IWPR seeks a qualified Advocacy Trainer who is able to deliver an Advocacy training remotely over 5 days. Having a highly qualified professional English- Arabic Advocacy trainer is vital to meet our objectives.
The scope of Work:
The trainer will be required to:
- Develop a toolkit package training that staff members will be trained on. The toolkit package will then be used as a tool throughout the training that takes place in the field.
- The toolkit will be divided into two sections: (1) Training skills (2) Advocacy and creative content.
- The toolkit will describe how the training will be delivered.
- Pre and Post-test questionnaire is required
- The trainer will conduct the training remotely
- The trainer will be required to be part of the review committee to give technical
feedback on the advocacy campaign in terms of how best the participants could
reach out and influence.
- The trainer will provide insight on the best ways to advocate for campaign related to SGBV and reconciliation at a community level/peacebuilding; and in the toolkit, there should be ideas that the trainees could use during their training
A - Advocacy:
Advocacy training should include the following as a minimum:
- Defined objectives and targeted audience
- How to develop and mentor an idea supported by advocacy
- Campaign selection criteria
- Develop the message, identify the right tools, develop an implementation plan for better public awareness
- Develop plans to support the objective of the project
B - Creative content for advocacy campaigns:
Train the participants on the following as a minimum:
- New multimedia tactics and techniques, and how to use them effectively in the new media to highlight their work on advocacy campaigns.
- Social media strategies, facilitated by the Internet, digital, and mobile technologies and platforms.
Qualifications of Successful Individual/Company:
- Advanced knowledge in advocacy, creative content and the Syrian context
- At least five (5) years of progressively advanced professional training in the mentioned field, preferably with Syrians
- Proven familiarity in working with Syrian activists and having an excellent understanding of the conflict issues and community security
- Fluency in Arabic (the language of the training) and English (report should be in English)
- Flexibility in communication and understanding the cultural context
- Previous experience in remote work and remote training
