Request for Quotation - Translation Services

Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR) is an independent not-for profit organisation that works with media and civil society to promote positive change in conflict zones, closed societies, and countries in transition around the world. Under the projects entitled WEPS and AJAD are funded by the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor.

 

IWPR works with Syrian reporters, bloggers and activists to support freedom of expression and Human Rights. The work focuses on empowering women in rural areas, supporting advocacy campaigns and providing trainings on Digital Security, Advocacy and Conflict-Sensitive Journalism.

 

IWPR is requesting translation services for the upcoming 12 months, this period can be renewed if deemed necessary, for IWPR- Lebanon.

 

 

 

Scope of Work:

 

  1. Converting written materials from one language into another language especially English, Arabic and Turkish
  2. The goal of a translator is to have people read the translation as if it were the original written material.
  3. The translator must be able to write in a way that maintains or duplicates the structure and style of the original text while keeping the ideas and facts of the original material accurate.
  4. Translators must properly transmit any cultural references, including slang, and other expressions that do not translate literally.
  5. Translators must read the original language fluently. They usually translate into their native language.
  6. limited to training materials, monitoring and evaluation documents, articles and blogs
  7. Research of technical and scientific phraseology to find the correct translation
  8. Consulting with technical program staff for details as required
  9. Liaising with Arabic Editor to discuss any unclear points and fact-checking when necessary
  10. Using research tools throughout the translation process
  11. Proofreading and editing final translated versions as required
  12. Working closely with staff editors to ensure final published documents retain articles original meaning
  13. Prioritizing work to meet strict deadlines
  14. Providing subtitles for videos as required
  15. Performing other translation tasks as may be required by IWPR

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Has the ability to deliver the service by the limit set by IWPR- to be determined in accordance to the size of the document that needs to be translated
  • Has previous experience in translating to other NGOs in Lebanon.
  • Holds a BS in translation or equivalent certificate.
  • Has a minimum of five (5) years of experience in this field.
  • Holds a license in translating
