Nutrition Field Officer

POSITION GENERAL OBJECTIVE

Under the supervision of Nutrition Head of Project and the Nutrition supervisor , the Nutrition Field Officer is responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring nutrition activities, with a particular focus on group awareness sessions about breastfeeding, complementary feeding, prevention of malnutrition, child care practices, and child development, together with individual counselling and support for those with difficulties and special vulnerabilities, and the development of strategies to promote and protect breastfeeding in health facilities. , while ensuring proper coordination and collaboration with municipalities, other authorities, beneficiaries and related Action Against Hunger departments. The position requires extensive field work and movement in North and West Bekaa (Baalbeck and Hermel Governorates).

 

POSITION SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES AND TASKS:

Objective 1 - Needs analysis and adapting approaches to cultural context

  • In collaboration with other Field Officers in the team and the Nutrition supervisor, the Nutrition Field officer will be responsible of assessing on a regular basis IYCF and nutrition practices amongst the targeted communities in the areas of interventions.
  • S/he will be responsible for determining the optimal and sub-optimal practices needing improvement.

Objective 2 - Nutrition and Care Practices sessions implementation

  • With the collaboration of other Field Officers in the team and the Nutrition Supervisor, the Nutrition Field Officer will identify new locations for the conduction of the nutrition and care practices sessions.
  • The Nutrition Field Officer will be responsible for organizing and implementing the community mobilization, with the support of other Field Officers (whenever required).
  • The Nutrition Field Officer will be responsible for conducting nutrition and care practices sessions.
  • The Nutrition Field Officer will be responsible to conduct Nutrition and Hygiene sessions in the schools identified by the FSL team.
  • S/he will stimulate the exchange between the beneficiaries in discussion on a particular theme and make them more dynamic.
  • S/he will be responsible for conducting the nutrition assessments required for the project and activities implementation
  • S/he will participate to any other nutrition activities that could be identified based on the beneficiaries needs or linked to the nutritional situation
  • Support in building relationships between Action Against Hunger, district authorities, municipalities and communities.

Objective 3 - Food hygiene and food preservation sessions implementation

  • With the collaboration of other Field Officers in the team, the Nutrition Field Officer will identify new locations for the conduction of the food hygiene and food preservation sessions with the support from food preservation trainer.
  • With other Field Officers, The Nutrition Field Officer will be responsible for organizing and implementing the community mobilization.

Objective 4 – Focal Points identification and capacity building

  • With the support of other Field Officers, the Nutrition Field Officer will be responsible for the identification, training and follow-up of focal points within the targeted communities, on different care practices topics.
  • S/he will be responsible for responding to the Focal points needs in term of technical support and reporting the challenges they are facing.

Objective 5 – Reporting

  • With the support of other Field Officers, the Nutrition Field Officer will be responsible for reporting the work and activities implemented in the field.
  • Through a narrative report, s/he will report the challenges faced through the implementation process and provide possible solutions relevant to the context and culture.

Objective 6 - Security

  • Respect the security rules specified in the mission and base security plan, see to it that the team under his/her responsibility complies with the security plan and perform the security management tasks that can be assigned in its protocols.
  • Communicate to the security managers of the working location any security related information or noncompliance with the security plan

Objective 7 - Support humanitarian activities of Action Against Hunger

  • Support the emergency interventions of the organization as per the employee’s abilities.
  • Support any activity that helps reaching our humanitarian goals, as per the employee’s abilities.
  • Promote gender equality within the humanitarian and/or development work

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Training/ Education:

Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics or relevant degree.

Technical specific knowledge:

Knowledge about infant and young child feeding, child growth, nutrition during the life cycle, acute malnutrition, chronic undernutrition, child development and micronutrient deficiencies. Additional knowledge and abilities about the alignment of nutrition with maternal and child health, mental health, and food security and livelihoods programs.

 

Previous experience:

1-3 years of experience working in community nutrition. Experience in working with the response to the Syrian crisis especially in Lebanon.

Humanitarian sector knowledge:

Good team worker, good listener, high communication skills, good animator and facilitator.

Action Against Hunger knowledge:

Mandate, Programs

Languages:

Working language in English written and speaking. Arabic.

IT and specific systems:

Good command of MS Office, compulsory expertise in Excel.

Mobility (national/ international):

Bekaa Region in Lebanon, West Bekaa, Baalbeck and Hermel Governorate
 

REMUNERATION PACKAGE:

We offer immediate incorporation to a dynamic international network with the following remuneration package:

  • Salary ranges from  USD1,257  to  USD1,566 gross per month according to the candidate’s previous experience (based on the standard list of Action Against Hunger - Spain).
  • Salary progression based on the annual development appraisal.
  • LBP 8,000 daily transportation allowance on working days
  • Social security registration and NSSF family allowance if eligible
