Volunteer - Capacity Building and Research and Development

himaya’s organizational mission is to promote an environment suitable for the development of children and ensure their global protection via fighting and preventing abuse on Lebanese ground. Employing a multidimensional child protection strategy, himaya focuses on all kinds of child abuse including sexual, psychological and physical abuse, as well as neglect and others. Working with the child, the family and the environment as a whole, the organization strives for change on a national level in order to ensure a long lasting impact on the lives of children in Lebanon. himaya is the only NGO in Lebanon that offers complementary programs including prevention, rehabilitation, and social reintegration through its 2 programs (training and education, and resilience) covering all areas of Lebanon including Beirut, Mount Lebanon, the North, the South and the Bekaa.

In the context of himaya’s mission, the CBRD (Capacity Building and Research and Development) department strives to build the skills of professionals working with children and families through designing workshops and training sessions that are well adapted to their scope of work. The CBRD department has conducted capacity building sessions and workshops with a range of professionals including teachers, psychologists, social workers, Internal Security Forces and school staff. In addition, the CBRD department has lead the development and implementation of child protection policies in 3 private schools in Lebanon as well as 10 community based organizations. Our professionals abide by child protection legislation including Law 422, the National Standard Operating Procedures for child protection sectors and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

About the project:

himaya, in partnership with Al Madad Foundation (UK), is conducting an assessment to explore the implementation of Child Protection Policies (CPPs) in non-formal education centers in Lebanon. Our aim is to review Child Protection Policies (CPPs) and assess CPP implementation in 10-12 non-formal education (NFE) centers in Lebanon. At each participating center, we conducted a total of 3 focus group discussions (with students, parents and teachers) and 1-2 interviews with the center’s administration. Through this assessment, we aim to produce recommendations that are context specific that will help other Lebanese organizations in implementing child protection policies.

Tasks:

The CBRD department at himaya is looking for 2-4 interns to assist in the transcription of audio recordings of interviews and focus group discussions (with adults, parents and children) in Arabic. There is 4-5 hours of recordings per center. Interns will be asked to transcribe audio recordings per center.

This is an opportunity for interns to be involved in a research project and learn about qualitative research. Also, there may be a possibility to involve the selected interns in other CBRD projects.
