Female PSS assistant

Responsibilities:

 

·   Provide psycho-social support and life skills sessions to adolescent girls and engaging with female caregivers

 

1.   Provide psycho-social support and lifeskills sessions to adolescent girls, in adherence to DRC’s curriculum on empowering adolescent girls, as part of the adolescent girls programme;

2.    Provide psycho-social and lifeskills sessions to engage with female caregivers, in compliance with DRC’s curriculum and as part of the adolescent girls programme;

3.   Deliver PSS in line with global and national inter-agency SOPs and standards, provide sessions in safe spaces in adherence to inter-agency standards and set session timing in collaboration with participants;

4.    Create a safe space where participants can voice their opinions, thoughts and emotions, share experiences and brainstorm on solutions in a confidential and respectful manner;

5.    Apply age and gender appropriate facilitation skills during group sessions; use inter-active adult learning techniques to effectively engage with session participants;

6.    Identify safe spaces in mobile and outreach locations in adherence with safe spaces inter-agency guidelines, ensure that activities are implemented in safe spaces that are accessible to women and girls, set timing of sessions is decided in consultation with women and girls to allow for their meaningful participation;

7.    Participate in outreach activities, including the ”I am Here” approach, to identify vulnerable adolescent girls, boys and their caregivers. Effectively engage with the community, caregivers and participants to ensure the meaningful participation and inclusion of most vulnerable and invisible girls and boys;

8.   When needed and with their informed consent, safely identify and refer survivors of SGBV and children at risk to case management services and other available services as needed;

9.   Coordinate effectively with GBV case workers to ensure their presence while providing key GBV sessions to adolescent girls and female caregivers, and facilitate introduction of GBV case management services to session participants;

10.  When needed and with their informed consent, liaise with DRC’s lawyer to ensure that women and girls survivors of SGBV or child protection violations receive legal counselling in line with the case plan;

11.  When needed and with their informed consent, liaise with psychologist to ensure that women and girls survivors of SGBV or child protection violations receive mental health and psychological support services;

12.  Actively identify adolescent boys at high risk of or engaged in risky behavior in relation or maladaptive gender role practices and ensure they are referred to the adolescent boys sessions;

13.  Actively participate in service mapping and update service map on quarterly basis, share service map with people of concern;

14.  Support and facilitate collection of monitoring and evaluation data, including baseline and endline questionnaires;

15.  Ensure proper and ethical documentation of data collected on both hard and soft copies, including attendance sheets, permission slips, parental consent, referrals etc.;

16.  Support the GBV Protection officer with the logistics and procurement processes as needed for the effective implementation of activities.

·     Coordination and planning

 

17.  Coordinate closely with GBV caseworkers to ensure that individual case plans are taken into consideration for tailoring sessions to the needs of adolescent boys and caregivers;

18.  Maintain positive relations with community members and key stakeholders, local implementing actors, local authorities, and other international and local stakeholders;

19.  Prepare and submit weekly, monthly and 3-month work plans in a timely manner with validation from the GBV Protection Officer’s.

 

Other: Perform any other duties relating to the nature of the job as directed by the Officer and the Program Manager

 

Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)

·         1 to 2 years of experience in working with adolescent girls required, experience in CP or SGBV case management is a plus

·     Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination and safety of survivor at all times

·        Excellent knowledge of GBV, child protection and PSS basic principles, good knowledge of negative impacts of child labor and early marriage on child development and at the individual, family and community levels

·     Excellent gender and age appropriate facilitation skills, child development and adult learning techniques

·        Excellent communication and psychosocial first aid skills

·        Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility

·        Comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well

·        Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel)

·        Ability to work flexible hours

·        Previous experience in international organizations and humanitarian settings is a plus

 .    Most be able to drive and have a driver Licence
