Social Worker - AKKAR (National Contract)

GVC is an Italian NGO founded in 1971. Actually is working in 22 countries worldwide. GVC presence in Lebanon dates back to the begin of Syrian Crisis and since then GVC has been implementing emergency and development projects in Bekaa and Akkar, financed by International Donors mainly in WASH sector.

GVC is actually recruiting personnel to cover the position of Social Worker to support activities in Akkar.

Position Title:                  Social Worker

Reporting to:                   Child Protection Officer and Inclusion Officer

Duty station:                    Kobayat office (Akkar) with travel to project areas

Project Framework:       SCALE: Social Cohesion through Accessible Learning Environments (funded by AICS)

 

OBJECTIVES:

Field implementation of project activities coordinated by the Child Protection Officer and the Inclusion Officer with a timely and good quality supervision in line with GVC Protection Strategy and Social Inclusion purposes.

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

    1.  Individual Child Protection Approach

  • Carry out needs assessment of most vulnerable families in the target area of intervention with Social Workers for school kits distribution;
  • Identify more vulnerable cases requiring targeted support and refer them to national and international actors capable of addressing specific needs of the targeted families;
  • Timely report to Child Protection Officer, Protection Coordinator and Inclusion Officer identified vulnerable cases;
  • Timely document findings of data collection in appropriate forms;
  • Contribute to an effective information management through the provision of disaggregated data on populations, problems and coping strategies; 
  • Regularly discuss findings of data collection for analysis purposes with Child Protection Officer;
  • Conduct field visits to meet with persons of concern within the community and identify vulnerable individuals as per monthly work plan;
  • Work to identify and support focal points and families within the community ensuring awareness, monitoring activities and follow-up;
  • Monitor cases referred, when no specific protection issues are present;
  • Conduct specific surveys to monitor activities carried out;
  • Timely inform Child Protection Officer when significant changes are recorded at field level within the communities to properly readdress project activities;
  • Uphold Humanitarian, Protection and Child Protection principles throughout the implementation of the project activities;
  • Respect and apply principles of dignity, respect, safety and participation during all field work;
  • Ensure informed consent is provided by each community member participating to the project activities;
  • Commit to confidentiality and non-disclosure of personal information of informants and of data collected through the needs assessment.

 

    2.  Awareness Raising Campaigns on Education

  • Carry out educational information and awareness-raising campaigns in the involvement of children with disabilities with the supervision of the Inclusion Officer and the Child Protection Officer.

 

    3.  Engagement of students’ families, Sport and Inclusion Activities

  • Contribute to establishment/strengthen Parents Committee Groups (PCG) in the targeted schools (organization of meetings with the students’ parents, development of an ‘Action Plan’, planning of PCG meetings);
  • Plan and carry out sports/entertainment activities on inclusion and social cohesion with students of the target schools and other young people living in the target area (plan the capacity building training for teachers, members of PCG, social animators and volunteers in the target area; organize the final sport/entertainment events);
  • Support Inclusion Social Workers in planning and implementing of communication campaigns on inclusion, specifically focusing on children with special needs (development of a strategic communication plan; implementation of the campaign through different media; organization of roundtables with different stakeholders).

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor Degree in social science, international law, or similar subject.  
  • At least 2 years of previous experience in the humanitarian sector within community mobilization
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Word and Excel
  • Previous work in NGOs will be an asset
  • Driving license is mandatory (to be held for at least 1 year)

  • Arabic and Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Good communication skills (with local authorities and communities)
  • Understanding of and commitment to humanitarian principles and values
  • Highly organized and able to work respecting deadlines
  • Passionate in the job, flexibility and willingness to work long hours
  • Ability to work in team with respect
  • Being flexible and with the ability to adjust to changes and new requirements

 

EMPLOYEMENT CONDITIONS

  • Contract duration: ASAP till the 9th of August 2020 full-time.
