Summary and Background:
The Community Health Supervisor (CHS) is in charge of supervising a team of health outreach volunteers working in informal settlements and/or collective shelters and centers. The CHS will oversee implementation of community health activities and monitor quality to ensure they adhere to International Medical Corps’ standards and guidelines.
Place in the Organization
The incumbent of this post is responsible to the Community Health Officer in the assigned Area and to the Community health manager. He/She will receive technical support from the Community Health Program Manager
Functions and responsibilities
In accordance with established policies and procedures, the Community Health Supervisor will:
- Establish and maintain a daily schedule of activities for health outreach volunteers
- Conduct daily visits to informal settlements and/or community shelters/centers where the community health program is implemented
- Participate in community health activities including, but not restricted to, health awareness group sessions, home visits and distributions
- Accompany health outreach volunteers during home visits and awareness sessions
- Participate in public health assessments; oversee data collection; and compile data
- Coach and support health outreach volunteers in utilizing data collection and monitoring tools
- Supervise performance of health outreach volunteers using standard checklists and reporting forms
- Act as a focal point between health outreach volunteers and the closest supported primary health care facility (point of referral)
- Collect and manage referrals from health outreach volunteers to health facilities
- Collect and assess referrals to other organizations for other needs such as shelter or WASH
- Monitor outcome of referral with health facilities and provide feedback on referred cases to health outreach volunteers
- Review, clean and compile data collected from the field
- Monitor reporting for community-based health surveillance system
- Provide detailed reports to Community Health Officer on a weekly basis
- Identify training needs of health outreach volunteers
- Develop relationships with local actors and community leaders as well as with other departments within IMC
- Communicate information in a timely manner to community health outbreak
