Organization and Project Background

The World Rehabilitation Fund, Inc. (WRF) is an international humanitarian non-profit organization headquartered in New York with a mission “To enable individuals around the world with functional limitations and participation restrictions achieve community and social integration through physical and socio-economic rehabilitation and advocacy and to prevent disability and reduce disadvantage.”

In Lebanon, the programs of WRF started in the early 1980s with the provision of training and material and technical assistance to concerned national (governmental and non-governmental) organizations, academic institutions, professional groups, and community-based rehabilitation institutions.

WRF/Lebanon is implementing a Project titled, “Filling Assistance Gaps in Basic Rehabilitation Services for Refugees from Syria With Disabilities and Their Peers in Host Communities in Lebanon ”.

 

Job Purpose

The main purpose of the Communication Officer (CO) role in the Project is to: (i) develop a communication strategy; (ii) develop and execute a communication plan; (iii) ensure production and dissemination of awareness and communication materials in accordance with Project objectives, targets, and processes; (iv) update the information of WRF website and expand its value and effectiveness; (v) work with concerned Project staff, and WRF staff,  to develop and disseminate Project related success stories; (vi) prepare and support the development and finalization of scheduled, and as needed, Project reports; (vii) assist Project staff in reporting on their work, challenges, and achievements; (viii) report regularly to Project management highlighting matters of concern; and (ix) ensure that information on progress, challenges and lessons learned produced by the Project M&E Team are documented and shared proactively, effectively, and appropriately as per Project management directives.

Key Tasks

The CO will be responsible for the following:

Assessments and Planning:

  • Conducting desk review of available assessments, surveys, and reports on Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) among refugees from Syria and in host communities.
  • Assisting in developing the assistance response plan based on the Project’s targets, priorities, selection criteria, and referral system.
  • Building on the communication work that is completed so far.
  • Developing a communication plan.

Project Communication and Reporting:

  • Setting up a Project communication plan.
  • Drafting and ensuring production and appropriate dissemination of Project related communication and awareness materials.
  • Developing targeted, periodic, and as needed, Project reports.
  • Producing the pre-final versions of the Project quarterly and final reports.
  • Updating WRF website and related materials, on continuous basis.
  • Supporting in developing/upgrading data collection tools and in data collection, analysis and reporting.
  • Supporting in identifying and developing lessons learned and success stories.
  • Reporting regularly and as needed on progress, achievements and challenges.

Project Implementation:      

  • Liaising and coordinating with the Project partners and stakeholders to foster good working relationships with all concerned.
  • Carrying out any other duties as requested by the Project management, as may be needed and appropriate.
