MAIN OBJECTIVE OF POSITION
Main purpose:
Following medical prescription, plan and carry out individual treatment and rehabilitative programs, by assessing patients’ physical state, in order to maintain, improve or rehabilitate the physical well-being of the patient, by functional retraining and prevent physical handicaps; and integration back to the community.
Accountabilities:
- Ensure quality physical rehabilitation care to patients.
- Assess patient physical capacities, using different procedures (e.g. functional capacity tests) in order to set up treatment objectives with the patient and therefore improve patient's health and wellbeing.
- Prior to surgery, carry out an assessment of and treatment where indicated (e.g. range of motion, muscle strength, mobility status, general functional ability, respiratory assessment, etc.). If needed, institute a program of pre-operative exercises.
- Perform the initial rehabilitation assessment; after consulting the patient’s medical file in order to collect / access any relevant medical information.
- Elaborate and implement a post-operative treatment plan. This includes physiotherapy exercises (mobilization, position to encourage passive and active ROM, strengthening of the impaired structures, circulatory and postural exercises, pain management, etc.), manipulations, massages, education, utilization of physiotherapy devices and orthopedic equipment, educating and advising patients and their caretakers on how to prevent and/or improve conditions, in order to accelerate and improve activity results.
- Train patients and caretakers on how to avoid re-injury and possible complications following the repair in order to create preventive behaviors. Perform patient’s education to return to previous function or higher level of activities.
- Re-assess the patient on regular basis to adapt the treatment plan according to the patient’s evolution (improvements, worsening, new issues, etc.).
- Perform a final assessment and a discharge evaluation before discharging the patient; using training material (brochures, posters, exercises, cards, etc.).
- Ensure the patient’s wellbeing by working in a multidisciplinary team, with surgical and nursing teams, as well as with mental health officers.
- Actively monitor and report physiotherapy activities (correctly filling in patient files, forms, statistics, and reports) and analyze these statistics in order to improve quality service, preserving patient’s data traceability.
- Take care of physiotherapy equipment, managing the stock, making orders according to activity and cleaning up the equipment, in order to ensure its continuous availability and quality of service.
Report to the technical referent any problem arising in the service, especially the loss/ robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines in order to implement the appropriate measures.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- Official degree/diploma in Physical Therapy is essential.
Experience
- Preferable experience in rehabilitation therapy for reconstructive surgery in post-burn injury complications.3
Languages
- Fluency in English and Arabic is Mandatory
