I. INTRODUCTION
Project Background Information
The Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) is a Lebanese NGO registered at the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities under no. 1186 on 18 June 2014. LRI started as a project launched in 2010 by the United States Forest Service (USFS) Office of International Programs (IP) through the support and funding of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). LRI's mission is to restore Lebanon's native forests and to instill commitment to reforestation and wildfire prevention and response, through capacity building of local communities and organizations.
The project is operated by LRI’s offices in Jdeideh, but the position is located in Anjar.
II. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
In partnership with Houch Moussa-Anjar Municipality, LRI is seeking a full-time ranger for Anjar Eco-Park. The ranger will be based in Anjar to help protect and conserve natural resources and cultural heritage and support the park team in managing visitors responsibly.
The Forest Ranger is expected to perform the following duties:
- Conduct daily monitoring visits around the park to monitor flora and fauna and report any unusual findings to Conservation Specialist and Park Manager;
- Follow up on maintenance work needed in different sections of the park, including maintenance of sites and equipment;
- Welcome visitors and provide them with visitor services, such as explaining regulations, and providing information about the park and surrounding areas;
- Manage visitor groups and guide them through different park sections and activities;
- Help in implementing education and awareness activities with different target groups;
- Support in implementation of restoration and conservation projects as requested; and
- Support in the Park House’s sales and orientation activities as needed.
III. REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
The Forest Ranger should possess the following competencies, skills, and experience:
- Basic knowledge on environmental conservation and biodiversity;
- At least 2 years of experience in the field of community mobilization, coordination of community activities, social work, forestry or any related field;
- Strong analytical, communication and inter-personal skills;
- High physical fitness;
- Good reporting skills;
- Good communication skills;
- Good interpersonal skills;
- Positive attitude toward the team;
- Self-reliant;
- Willingness to learn new skills; and
- English, Arabic and Armenian are a must. French is a plus.
