Communication and Advocacy Coordinator

 

Line Manager/s:

Country Director.

Working collaboratively with Programme Manager for Mine Action and Disarmament (MAD) and managers and staff in Development and Humanitarian Cooperation (DHC)

 

Introduction:

Norwegian People’s Aid has been present in Lebanon since 1982. Its main office is in Beirut and there are operational field offices in Tyr and Arsal. We contribute to safer communities by mine clearance and disarmament. We work in humanitarian action by the support of livelihoods and survivors of gender-based violence in refugee- and host communities. And we link relief with development by strengthening citizen’s participation through support to civil society advocating for rights such as freedom of expression, Palestinian refugee rights, and women’s rights.

The Communication and Advocacy Coordinator will prepare a communications strategy, facilitate and implement communications. She or he will provide support to NPA or partner advocacy initiatives, collaborate in advocacy opportunities nationally, regionally, and globally.

The purpose is to influence the humanitarian and development agenda by showcasing the experience and lessons learned from Lebanon, promote media and public outreach, and to mobilize financial support to NPA and its partners. 

The Communication and Advocacy Coordinator leads the communication activities in NPA Lebanon, has a strong working relationship with Program and Projects Managers and staff working with partners. She or he will liaison closely with relevant DHC advisors engaged in advocacy and head office communication department.

 

Functional Prerequisite:

  • Language proficiency in English and Arabic
  • Experience in communication, including visual communication products, graphic products, and social media
  • Experience in advocacy and policy formulations, and a good understanding of the role of INGOs in the humanitarian system and the global development community.
  • Good cultural understanding, and interpersonal skills
  • Valid driving license and can travel to project areas in all Lebanon

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

External communication, visibility, and media

  • Follow up on communication commitments in NPA agreement with donors
  • Develop an NPA visual profile with regards to uniforms, cars, offices
  • Follow up on NPA's commitment to communication with an affected population according to Core Humanitarian Standard no 4 “Humanitarian response is based on communication, participation, and feedback”.
  • Prepare Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social media updates in cooperation with program staff.

 

Internal communication

  • Produce internal communication products.
  • Support in internal communication concerning compliance issues such as on Safeguarding and PSEA, Whistle Blow system, according to NPA and donor policies.
  • Support the Country Management Team in crisis communication.

 

 

Advocacy on national, regional and international arenas

  • Support Program Managers for Mine Action Department and managers for development and humanitarian programs to prepare for regional and global events such as review conferences on the Anti-personnel Mine Ban Treaty and Convention on Cluster Ammunition.
  • Follow up on the preparation and participation of NPA and its partners at major donor conferences and related events.
  • Follow up advocacy working groups in the Lebanon Humanitarian NGO Forum.
  • With relevant projects and Program Managers, draft, adapt and produce policies and strategies relevant to our programs
  • Provide content to HQ communications such as their press releases, statements, in collaboration with relevant NPA projects and program managers, or with other INGOs

 

Production of information materials

  • Prepare up to date information materials on NPA country and program strategies and NPA added value
  • Prepare up to date information material on NPA results, impact stories, lessons learned, change stories by the use of written and/or visual media.
  • Support HQ in maintaining an up to date internet site on Lebanon
  • Organizing and maintain the NPA Lebanon photo library and archives.
  • Produce presentations of NPA by use of video and PowerPoint for use in external relations
  • Produce graphic presentations of NPA results and impact, including maps, for external relations

 

Perform other duties as assigned by the line manager.
