Background of the project

USAID’s “Quality Instruction towards Access and Basic Education Improvement” (QITABI 2) is a five-year program seeking to improve learning outcomes for all students in public primary schools in Lebanon awarded to Word Learning. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) will lead the social and emotional learning (SEL) component of the program and is responsible of developing Social Emotional SEL Short videos addressed to teachers and to students and aiming to explain main SEL messages and skills.
Scope of work
The contractor should conduct a proper research and desk review in the Arabic context of social emotional learning concepts. Based on the research, the contractor should work on the contextualization of SEL related documents, including definitions of terms in Arabic, as well as domains and constructs.
Deliverables:
- Conduct a research on SEL concepts developed in Arabic in the Arab context
- Develop a definition of SEL technical words in Arabic based one the finding of the research.
- Consolidate contextually relevant definitions for priority competencies taking into consideration the cultural and linguistic sensitivity.
- Re-interpret and reformulate the definitions of priority competencies into consideration the cultural and linguistic sensitivity
- Conduct the contextualization of all SEL English developed documents and ensure the proper development of all related documents in Arabic
- Deliver the needed SEL framework to the SEL senior manager as requested
- Finalize the research for the kernels and submit them as requested the SEL senior manager
- The submission of documents should be in Arabic (the original document is in English)
Requirements:
- Advanced university degree in the field of Education, Social Sciences, Teaching, Psychology, or relevant fields of study.
- Well versed in SEL language within the Lebanese context
- Knowledge and understanding of the social context of relevant age groups, namely primary grades 1 – 6.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with the public education sector
- Ability to apply theoretical and research-based knowledge into context specific SEL language
- Fluent in Arabic and French/English
- Lebanon
