UNV Associate Human Rights Officer

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Regional Representative and  the direct supervision of the ROMENA Human Rights Officer –Youth team leader, the UNV Associate Human Rights Officer will :

 

  • Contribute to the daily work of the Regional Office and respond to requests falling within its tasks and ccontribute to ROMENA monthly and annual reports. Participate in developing the annual plan of action and its activities’ implementation.
  • Contribute to substantive and organizational support for trainings, workshops and conferences; including drafting of concept notes, coordination with external trainers/speakers, drafting of reports and recommendations; contacting the participants to provide documents. 
  • Monitor developments related to the preparation of reports for international and regional human rights mechanisms; and joining international conventions and other human rights mechanisms as well. Contributing to the formulation of internal and external notes and media reports relevant to human rights developments.
  • Follow-up on the situation of human rights defenders in monitored countries through open sources and direct monitoring.
  • Monitor the status of ratification of human rights treaties and monitor the extent to which governments are respecting the provisions of the international conventions ratified, at both legal and political levels, as well as the concluding observations of the treaty bodies through monitor the laws and regulations of his/her respective monitored countries and identify legal and procedural gaps.
  • Collaborate with the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) and assess their needs to integrate HR-based Approach in Common Country Analysis (CCA) and UN Strategic Framework (UNSF). In addition, provide technical support in reporting to UN human rights mechanisms (Universal Periodic Report, Treaty Body and Special Procedures).
