Legal Action Worldwide (LAW) is a unique non-profit network and think tank of lawyers which provides creative legal assistance in fragile and conflict-affected areas and places national lawyers at the forefront of legal change. LAW uses advocacy, research, legal empowerment and strategies to bring about this change. LAW’s thematic focuses include: Addressing Sexual and Gender based Violence; Accountability; Natural Resource Exploitation/displacement; and Transitional Justice. LAW’s Advisory Council and Board are comprised of senior international lawyers who advise LAW on the development of innovative casework and legal strategies. LAW’s ground-breaking work has received international media coverage, including in the New York Times, the Times of London, the Guardian, Al-Jazeera, France24, Voice of America, Huffington Post and Foreign Policy.

Lebanon Programme

Since September 2018, a consortium led by Euromed Feminist Initiative is implementing a multi-country project “Strengthening access to protection, participation and services for women refugees, IDPs and host communities”, funded by the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis – MADAD. The overall objective is to improve the livelihood, agency and legal and social protection for Syrian women refugees, IDPs and host communities in the region, with focus on Lebanon, Iraq (Kurdistan Region) and Jordan. 

In Lebanon the project is implemented by a consortium composed of Euromed Feminist Initiative, Care International in Lebanon, Lebanese Democratic Women Gathering and Legal Action Worldwide. The objectives are to enhance security and resilience for Syrian women refugees and women from host communities in Lebanon through supporting and coordinating comprehensive and structured services and referral mechanisms, as well as to support national institutions in their work towards more gender sensitive policy frameworks and legislation.

LAW is focusing on the provision of legal aid, access to justice for survivors of sexual violence and support to the reform of legislation and policy. Legal aid services are provided by lawyers and Legal Information Officers (LIOs). 

 

LAW seeks a creative project campaigner to ensure adequate exposure and emphasis of LAW’s activities in Lebanon on various media/ social media platforms.  The candidate will be responsible for shaping up LAW’s communication and activism exposure. The campaigner will also use proven methods to promote activities campaigner will work closely with programmatic team, lawyers, field officers and communications focal point.

Duties

 

  • Designing, managing and implementing influencing activities, including communications, public mobilisation and messaging initiatives within LAW’s project in Lebanon, working closely with the programme team and content creator;
  • Drafting LAW’s campaign strategy in close coordination with LAW’s programme manager;
  • Establishing strong relationships for the organization in particular working with A large range of actors, including external international actors and vulnerable groups;
  •  Formulating key messages to amplify LAW’s activities;
  •  Creating digital and offline content for Legal action activities and exposure;
  • Coordinating with consortium partners, ensuring compliance with EU’s communication guidelines.
  • Keeping a close eye for campaign opportunities in the media/social media – identifying important events and develop creative angles to news stories.

 

Experience and Qualifications Required:

 

  • BA in media and communication or equivalent field;
  • Minimum five years’ experience carrying out or leading on delivering high-profile campaigns, working on issues related to women’s rights, refugees or other marginalized groups;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to cultivate high-level interaction with local/international organizations as well as media and civil society;
  • Strong media experience, including preparing media releases, briefing journalists, promoting stories, guidance on social media posts.
  • Knowledge and understanding of international human rights and humanitarian law.

 

Skills required

  • Proven ability to analyse complex issues, identify impactful opportunities, develop innovative campaign ideas and to ensure increased visibility
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic with the ability to clearly articulate information to various audiences and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work constructively as part of a team and actively pursuing networking with the ability to work remotely.

 

Location: Beirut with travel within the country to field offices
