Solidarités International is an International NGO working with vulnerable populations, mainly victims of armed conflicts and natural disasters. Specialized for nearly 40 years in the coverage of vital needs, S.I. takes charge of emergency and reconstruction programs.
With respect for cultures and close to the people, Solidarités International implements its programs by combining its skills with those of its employees and local managers.
Solidarités International's teams, made up of around 270 expatriates and nearly 2200 local employees, are today present in 18 countries in Asia, Middle East, Africa and Caribbean where they are particularly committed to fighting diseases related to unsafe water but also in the essential area of food security and livelihoods.
ABOUT THE JOB
List of main activities:
Survey, evaluation, data collection and information management
- Collect data during needs assessments, baseline studies, KAP survey, and regular monitoring activities, and help collecting feed backs from stakeholders (including beneficiaries).
- Help identifying needs for non-food items relevant to hygiene management (including Covid-19 protective measures), participate in the choice of items, targeting strategy, promotion of effective use, and post-distribution monitoring. Consider a longer term strategy for access to key hygiene promotion items ie. Soap.
- Conduct weekly planning meetings with field staff to ensure integration and best use of resources.
- Prepare regular reports of activities, field expenditures, and WASH conditions for monitoring and report on these to the WASH Activity Manager.
- Help in setting up criteria for selecting beneficiaries
Implementation
- Facilitate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities including waste management.
- Promote safe WASH and waste management practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services:
- Identify key risk hygiene practices. Plan and carry out participatory activities to mitigate priority water and sanitation related health risks. These activities may include communication activities such as community meetings, drama, information campaigns, use of educational materials etc.;
- Mobilise communities to increase ownership and maintenance of WASH facilities by: creation and support of WASH/ hygiene committees, organisation of monthly community clean up days and water container cleaning sessions etc.
- Act as the link between Solidarités International, local services and authorities, other actors working in Solidarités International’s project sites and the affected population.
- Ensure a confidential feedback mechanism is in place to facilitate the accountability of Solidarités International for WASH programme quality.
- Train, and manage hygiene promotion volunteers; Community Mobilisers, child to child teams and other hygiene outreach workers.
- Organise day-to-day logistics, administration, and personnel activities together with the WASH Activity Manager.
- Carry out Hygiene Promotion activities in line with relevant standards, codes of conduct, and humanitarian principles, including distribution of adapted hygiene and disinfection kits.
- Develop Hygiene Promotion activities and resources so that they are implemented and handed over or ended in a way that promotes local capacities and sustainable operations.
- Take account of gender, protection, HIV, the environment, and other important cross-cutting concerns in programme design, implementation, and reporting; carry out activities in a way that reflects the needs of specific groups and individuals e.g. elderly people, children, and people with disabilities.
Monitoring of activities and Reporting
- Report every week to Managers regarding progress on activities according to format.
- Share formalized information and progress with the team involved on the project on a regular basis
- Conduct regular monitoring of the good process and impact of the activities, adapt implementation and plan activities accordingly as well as ensuring that the results are matching with the indicators of the program.
- Follow up on other actors activities in the area.
- Report back to Managers before, during and after the activities any additional information related to WASH related activities, and security context or any event that may affect Solidarités International activities and security.
- Inform the community about SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL’s activities and answer any question related to the organization and the program
The Community Hygiene Promoter may be asked to drive SOL cars and to respect the driving policies set by the logistic department and attached to this document.

Candidate’s profile:
- Knowledge of one or more of the following: public health, health or Hygiene Promotion, community development, education, or community water supply and sanitation. This includes Covid-19 understanding.
- Experience and understanding of Hygiene Promotion and community mobilisation in relation to water and sanitation activities.
- Familiarity with the culture of the affected population, ability to develop respect from a wide range of people and strong ability to communicate effectively on hygiene matters.
- Strong communication skills. Good listening skills. Fluency in the language of the affected population and working English.
- Analytical, and planning skills.
- Good oral and written reporting skills.
- Diplomacy, tact, and negotiating skills.
- Ability to work well in a team
- Basic knowledge of office software.
- Good spoken and written Arabic
- Driving licence
