Education Assistant - North

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Education Assistant is responsible for implementing the non-formal Education programme under the supervision of the Education Officer and with support from the Education Coordinator. The Education Assistant will ensure that programme implementation is timely and of a high technical quality, monitoring processes are in place, timely reporting occurs, the programme is continually assessed, and solutions quickly put in place should there be a change of context. The Education Assistant is expected to dedicate 75% of work time in the field.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Education Officer

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

- Under the supervision of the Education Officer, the Education Assistant will facilitate the implementation of the Education in Emergencies programme particularly Community-Based Early Childhood Education.

- Provide awareness sessions and advise beneficiaries on existing education activities and other social services, and refer them as relevant.

- Contribute to field assessments and data collection as required.

- Support in establishing and implementing operational work plans, and setting targets and activity plans per communities and programme sites.

- Liaise on a daily basis with stakeholders, families, and Save the Children supervisors and colleagues to guarantee a smooth operation of the programmes.

- Work directly in the field with children, educators, community members, parents, and other stakeholders in programme locations.

- Plan and facilitate the distribution of learning materials.

- Actively participate in capacity building initiatives when relevant, and assist in the organisation and implementation of trainings and workshops.

- Lead on community outreach activities and effectively conduct focus group discussions and assessments.

- Support the recruitment process of educators and volunteers.

- Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of Child Protection at all times, including respect for confidentiality and a child centred approach and to act in the best interests of the child.

Monitoring and Evaluation

- Ensure that data is accurately collected and reported according to guidelines.

- Produce timely reports on the ongoing activities of the project.

- Share implementation challenges and suggest solutions to direct supervisor.

- Regularly visit programme sites to ensure that parents and targeted communities are appropriately supported and that qualitative and quantitative programme objectives are achieved.

Adherence to Save the Children policies and procedures

- Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to Child Protection, Code of Conduct, Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

- Perform other duties as agreed with the line manager.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

- At least two years of experience in education, preferably in an (I) NGO environment or educational setting. Prior teaching experience is an asset

- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Education, Development / Humanitarian Studies, or Social Sciences

- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office)

- An understanding of formal and non-formal education and Education in Emergencies

- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills

- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic, and good written and spoken English. Knowledge of French language is an asset

- Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours, and work in an insecure volatile context

- Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches

- Familiarity with T5 and Akkar areas is an asset
